Chavez Frias confirms deception -- DEA tapping domestic intelligence agencies
After placing his vote in the ballot box Sunday, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias spoke to reporters, confirming that he has scotched an agreement with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), adding further reasons for his decision.
The President argues that it all boils down to a matter of national sovereign ... "we have been checking up and it appears that the DEA was using the war on narco-trafficking to support narco-trafficking even and undertake intelligence work against the Venezuelan government."
Based on these facts, the President contends that he has decided to annul the agreement with DEA ... "we are reviewing it and will take decisions ... we don't need the DEA in our war on narco-trafficking."
Venezuela will continue to work with other anti-drug international organs and with countries such as Colombia, China and Russia. There was no mention of other foreign anti-drugs agencies operating in Venezuela, such as the UK's Scotland Yard and the Dutch Police based in Curacao.
