Wife Of Christopher Reeve Says She Has Lung Cancer
http://www.wnbc.com/entertainment/4827152/detail.html

NEW YORK -- Dana Reeve, who spent nine years caring for her paralyzed husband, Christopher Reeve, until his death last year, announced Tuesday that she has lung cancer.

Reeve, 44, said she decided to disclose her illness following rumors about her health in the media.

"I have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, and am currently undergoing treatment," Reeve said in a statement. "I have an excellent team of physicians, and we are optimistic about my prognosis."

"Now, more than ever, I feel Chris with me as I face this challenge," Reeve said. "As always, I look to him as the ultimate example of defying the odds with strength, courage and hope in the face of life's adversities."

1. Oh, my how very sad
She's only 44. How much can one family go through? I am sorry for their son, he's still pretty young, I believe.

2. Oh Geez....
This just sucks...after hearing about how quickly it took Peter Jennings life, I dread what it will do to Dana.

I guess here the question becomes not just at what stage it is, but her "will to live". Does she want to join Chris? My guess is not now, she has to be there for their son Will....

I pray and hope for Dana that she can beat this....

6. That's what I was thinking.
It must not have been too consoling to hear about Jennings. Bless her heart.

9. Dad lived 15 years after initial diagnosis, never quit SMOKING.
Maybe if she never smoked, she has much longer! just a thought.

11. Scary
Lung cancer is a tough one to beat as we just saw with Peter Jennings. I had an uncle who did live a couple of years after a lung removal. But both were smokers. To hear of a young, healthy person with this disease really shatters the myth of invulnerability for non-smokers.

I'm having a bit of a psychosomatic reaction...my chest/lungs hurt.

12. There is a type of non-smoker lung cancer.
A friend's daughter in her 30's had it, and had never smoked.. never lived in pollution, was quite healthy all her life. Sometimes there is just a cell mutation or genetic issue that causes it.

I hope she fights this and has a long happy life. How much grief can one family take?

13. Andy Kaufman died of lung cancer - another non-smoker...
I sincerely hope poor Dana Reeve can beat this. :(
