Advertising does the same thing...
The appeal of images/disruptions of sex and violence is to go to the mind through the 'ancient pathways' of the brain...stimulate heart beat, adrenaline, blood flow...
And avoid the more advanced 'learning' centers--let's face it, your not thinking deep thoughts when a big badass dog jumps onto the sidewalk in front of you...you're 'primitive' instincts takeover...

Same reason they toss sexy blondes (irrational) onto the roofs of cars to SELL them (rational) or use 'fear' words like terror, murder, fire, brimstone, CLASH of civilizations (irrational) to discuss foreign policy or legal limitations (rational)...

4. The Human Race is hard pressed to address this weakness

and should take the steps towards Maturity.

Only Mature species(so called intelligent ones) can find the way to make their planet Sustainable. All else is MOOT. Either we take the steps to live comfortably and for the long term or we don't.

There is a window of time. The more we waste our precious energy on frivilous matters such as war, the longer our odds we find the right path.

Of course we can be in denial and reject this.... as we are doing now, but perhaps one day in the near future, we will rue the hesitation, not being able to accomplish what is required for sustainability due to lack of energy.

6. Complacent Nations often fall victim to unscrupelous Leaders who

worm their way in one way or another.

North Korea, Uganda, Argentina, Germany, Italy, etc etc etc ad nauseum

Once the takeover is complete, the people are hard pressed to rid themselves of the Cancer, the Malfesance, the infection that describers a bad gov't. It took years for the Ruskies to rid themselve of a bad system. Several life times in many cases.

Our great Nation is not safe from a take over. It can be done. Evil people will do evil things and rationalize its not evil but neccessary. They will lie to the people and get away with it.

Thinking people do not let their govrm'ts get the better of them for once that happens, only a revolution might save the day. To avoid the people must THINK long and Hard Before they vote.

7. I think we are action more prone to it.

We have a huge nationalist issue in this country. It seems to have always been. God Bless America... and all that.

Do other countries have a media where talking heads call people anti-french/canadian/german etc...? I would suppose so, but probably not to the extreme that we have here.

We are really already in the starting course of an empire done in a very subtle way, economically. We are stepping up our military intervention. The cold war budget never went bye-bye, now we have the War on Terror to justify everything, all over again.

8. So Sad but true, and so telling too. I fear for America and the direction

the Pubs, Neocons, Far Right, Christian Coalition, etc are taking us.

Its not about America, the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave, its about them and how to retire early, gather far more than neccessary to live a good life. For Grasso to reap 140 million$ is obscene. Its about Greed and Power, the Control, and the Domination.

People who do not care for their Nation through good voting do themselves and children a great dis service.

Somehow, we must shuck the yoke of ignorance and emotion which allows the arrogance, superiority complex, anger, etc of the Far Right. There is so much goodness in Humanity but it is overshadowed by the evil greed of the few who dare to impose their philosophy on the rest of us.
