Report from Cindy - Day 3
Where do I begin?

Today was a highly eventful day. This entry won’t be artful, but utilitarian.

I conservatively got 3 to 5 phone calls a minute. I did about 25 phone interviews and several TV interviews. I did several right-wing radio interviews. I was supposed to do: The Today Show, MSNBC live interview, Connected Coast to Coast (MSNBC) and Hardball (MSNBC). The Today Show just never showed up and the other 3 MSNBC shows cancelled for no reason.

Another big story that was going on today was about my first meeting with Bush in June of 2004. For you all I would like to clarify a few things. First of all, I did meet with George, and that is not a secret. I have written about it and been interviewed about it. I will stand by my recounting of the meeting. His behavior was rude and inappropriate. My behavior in June of 2004 is irrelevant to what is going on in 2005. I was in deep shock and deep grief. The grief is still there, but the shock has worn off and the deep anger has set in. And to remind everybody, a few things have happened since June of 2004: The 9/11 commission report; the Senate Intelligence report; the Duelfer WMD report; and most damaging and criminal: the Downing Street Memos. The VERY LAST THING I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS IS: Why do the right wing media so assiduously scrutinize the words of a grief filled mother and ignore the words of a lying president?

In the early afternoon, we got word that if we were still there by Thursday, we were going to be deemed a “security threat” to the president. Condi and Rummy are coning in on Thursday for a “policy” meeting. I just don’t understand why we will be a security threat on Thursday when we aren’t now? If we don’t leave on Thursday, we could be arrested. Well, I am not leaving. There are only three things that would make me leave: if George comes out and talks to me; if August comes to an end, or if I am arrested.

6. I oppened with both barrels
So the brass is leaning on you? You NEED to cover this story, this is a NATIONAL story, not the Aruba girl or the Michael Jackson story. You insult the intelligence of Vets and their wives, or husbands, as well as that of Service Members

So this is not a story you want to carry because it makes the cowards in Crawford look bad? Oh cry me a river, if the coward had any balls he would have finished his duty, and if this racket was so important the two daughters would be in uniform and on their way to the front lines. Maybe it is not that important to risk lives. Should I remind you that WW II War President FDR lost a son in the front lines? Need I remind you that President did not take monthly long vacations? Nor did he ignore Intel Reports regarding German operations off shore, may I remind you of that PDB entitled "Ossama Bin Ladin determined to strike inside the United States."

Oh and wile we are at this, well this story is about the reasons for war, why not look up Project for a New American Century and Rebuilding America's Defenses... or are management's buddies at Carlyle leaning too hard on you guys? I know it is hard to go against the current, but we need those of you in the press to collectively revolt... then again the Ministry of Truth lives today... and I guess next thing I know Cindy Sheehan and her son Casey will disappear down the memory hole, as they are not good for profits. Boy I am glad these days I don't even buy GE light bulbs.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXX

8. Mine was more tame, but the same thing:
To Whom It May Concern:

Why did NBC and MSNBC decide to cancel interviews with the mother of a dead soldier? Cindy Sheehan wants answers from President Bush, and she is prepared to go to jail to get them. People in this country DO NOT CARE about missing girls in Aruba, runaway brides or Michael Jackson. There is actual news happening, and your network is missing it.

Sincerely,
me.

I am a Navy Mom. My son served. He is now a federal firefighter on the front lines should
TERRORISM happen. He has passed his HASMAT test last year. He is willing to go in
and CLEAN UP toxic terror, no matter "who" throws it.

HOW DARE YOU cancel the story of a SERIOUS, GRIEVING,
GOLD STAR MOM who wants to speak to that coward of a president who did not
even serve honorably when he was in the service.

Your decisions have a direct effect on the people of the world. The
decisions of each of us does.

Your choice to cancel the interviews with Cindy is a SHAMEFUL choice.

WE DO Need to know about each time someone BURPS in ARUBA!

BE GOOD. REPORT the good news and the BAD!

Cindy Sheeham is a modern day ROSA PARKS and you thumb your nose at her.

YOU ARE PATHETIC!

How it is that Today’s Katie Couric can do a one-on-one exclusive interview with the runaway-bride, but your show cancels an interview with Cindy Sheehan? Is the runaway-bride more newsworthy than Cindy? Is the runaway-bride more courageous for talking about her "cold feet" than Cindy is for challenging the President of the United States to explain why we are still in Iraq after every reason he has given thus far has proved to be false? Or is it simply because GE owns your network and makes a handsome sum off of wars? I am astonished at the lack of integrity of your organization.

20. Here is my NBC email
I will also be sending one to Hardball. That is the only show I watch on any NBC station anyway, so I won't miss much if I never turn on NBC!!

HOW ON EARTH DO YOU NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO CINDY SHEEHAN AS A GOLD STAR MOTHER???? I will not watch any show on NBC or MSNBC ever again. You said the TODAY show was going to show her and you did not even show up. Has BUSH corrupted the entire media??? You showed the runaway bride? Oh my God. Big mistake. I am blocking all NBC stations from my television and telling everyone I know if you do not cover this story. This is REAL NEWS!!! People on blogs, forums and message boards are all ready to boycott your network and it's advertisers if you can not step up to the plate and give us some real news. Could it be that you are owned by GE and that is why you can not tell us the truth? No wonder your ratings are in the toilet. Make things right. PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY ARE SICK OF THIS!!! We want real news.....real journalism. We do not care about missing blondes in Aruba and runaway brides.

Cindy Sheehan gets a flag-draped coffin containing her dead son. a snot full of
Texas road dust, and a threat of an arrest for being a "security threat". We get
Ballroom dancing on the Nightly News.

Your network has become a disgrace to journalism - and entertainment for that
matter. But I suppose GE has a better idea.

64. a human face
Finally after years of careful subterfuge and repression, the human face of pain and agony is naked for all to behold. They have scripted all the language, trumped tired cliches, made black, white and white, black and not even let us see the coffins of the dead. At last a glimmer of sunlight. A soap crazed public addicted to personal drama,BaBa Walters and the bloated sentimentality of the 5 o'clock news finally gets its fix in Cindy Sheehan. Like a Trojan Horse she has slipped herself inside the castle walls of the mindless media. These droids who were last just last week hooked on Jacko and Peterson, Princess Di and Brad Pitiful are now getting hooked on Cindy. She's taking the back door into the lobotomized brain of Amerikanna. IT is what the bush-turd and his handlers fear most. That suddenly the droids will awaken and turn on their masters. A regular plantation riot could be in store, circa 1807. Cindy Sheehan as Mandingo the heavily hung black rapist let loose inside the colony and roaming free amongst the virgins. Gods speed to her. May she screw the living daylights out of the T.V. consciousness that is wet on the American brain. We pray for wind to fill your sails and for great buckets of semen to fill your balls. The shrunken men of Washington watch in envy as Cindy bestrides Crawford like a collosus. Wait, when was it I last heard those two names in one telling? Thats right, not since Richard Gere first mounted Cindy Crawford has there been such a personal interest story. Carry forth and cry to the heavens you robust woman and may your tears water the seeds of a new peoples' movement and drown these baby facists in their cribs.

23. The light of freedom...
Personally, I find this whole thing with Cindy Sheehan very inspiring. She's in such a perfect position to focus the public's anger against the administration, and the fact that she's sticking to her guns despite the weather, the threats of intimidation and -most recently- a despicable "swift boat" attempt to smear her character by Bush's cronies... her mission gives me a sense of hope, the first real flicker of hope that I've felt in a long time. The NeoCon propaganda machine is so massive, so imperical, the collusion with the mass media is so thorough... it really drives home the allegory of the tiny individual against the gigantically dark and sinister system. We need to keep the focus on Cindy and her mission. She's doing this for all of us, for each soul snuffed out in Iraq, for all who grieve the loss of a loved one in a senseless, immoral and illegal war that serves no productive purpose. If we let the mainstream media cancel out Cindy's story, it'll only further the NeoCon juggernaut's progress against all free and forward minded Americans.

It's time to find our feet and stand up. Even if we can't be there with Cindy in person, we can be there with her in spirit. Don't let the machine win yet again. Stand up for our troops. Stand up for our country. Stand up for the restoration of sanity, compassion and understanding. In your heart of hearts you know right from wrong, you know what needs to be done. 62% of the country is listening to their hearts and using their minds, applying reason and sense to a conflict that has none. There are other answers, other ways to protect our country from those who wish to do us harm. The answers will not be found in Iraq, or in Iran, or in the liberty-crushing text of the Patriot Act.

Look deep. Then look deeper. Ask the questions. Then ask them again.

Pass it on.

Then pass it on again.

26. Mitch Albom today opened up the phone lines on Cindy Sheehan's protest
and the sheep from the Rush/Sean/Bush camp all chimed in on her changing her position from her first meeting with Bush in 2004. Geez, can't any of these people (and I use that term lightly) think for themselves? Can't they take in consideration that Sheehan has changed her opinion on Bush's war based on the developments she has given? Probably not because most of these knuckle-draggers do not have skills such as deductive reasoning.

Do they set their entire day around what Rush & Co. tell them, including when to have bowel movements, what to say, when to get out of bed, and so forth?

You can tell the right is in attack mode. Call all of the talk shows and say the same thing.

If something like this happened under Clinton's watch, would these same people rally 'round the president and give their rhetoric about how this harms the nation, and so forth?

I think you know the answer.

If the President (by proxy via the Secret Service) is so insensitive to a grieving mother's vigil that he'd have her arrested, this may be the last straw for many Americans. For some reason, it reminds me of the man holding the grocery bags in Tiananmen Square--someone so powerless who stands up in the face of absolute power. Ms. Sheehan, may God give you the strength to carry on!

41. Whoa!!! You think we should tell Cindy to put a sock in it!?!?!?
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 06:21 PM by ktowntennesseedem
Seems that Bushco and the right-wing media are doing a fine job of shoving the sock in her mouth already; she's just exercising her American right to speak out, and given what she's been thru, I'd say she has just a bit of extra right on this subject. Cindy's visit is not just for her, but for all those who have yet to meet the president once, who have yet to receive a straight answer from the liar that sent all their brave children and spouses and parents to die for no reason.

on edit: by the way, enjoy your brief stay at DU!!!

55. But consider what has transpired since then:
Since then we have heard from the WMD committee that ruled there were never any threats of WMD's from Iraq. Since then we have had the Downing Street Minutes that point to an administration who were twisting and manipulating, and in most cases ignoring, intelligence reports to convince the UN and a naive American public of the urgent need to go to war. And we have have the Plame-gate scandal brewing hotter and hotter, giving harsh evidence of just what happens when someone refuses to twist or ignore intelligence that doesn't fit the script.

Chimp may have said some things to her to show sincerity and compassion, and she may have very well believed him and said as much at that time. But what has happened since raises more than enough doubt on whether this liar can be believed in anything he says, including attempts to speak words of comfort and empathy.

The RW media will attempt to crucify her simply for opposing the president; it doesn't matter what else she does now or what she did or didn't do in the past. As I often say about myself when refering to something I have said or done in the past, "I've slept since then." Cindy has had several, likely sleepless, nights to reflect and think on this, and I for one say she's fully entitled to change her mind.

48. "GWB hasn't met with most soldiers families once. . . .
. . .why is Cindy so special she deserves a second visit?" LOL

Well said, Mr. Obvious, thanks for making one of my points for me. This illegally elected boob has set a new low in the standard of behavior for a U.S. President in wartime. Apparently you and others like you are so brainwashed by the neo-con machine that you no longer recognize any truth or irony or hypocrisy when it smacks you upside the head. I wonder why we STILL see no TV coverage of the body bags coming home--I don't see why that particular truth should be any more difficult for right-wingers to IGNORE than all the other incontrovertible facts and evidence of the illegality and insanity of this war that we do see. This administration and the fascist wing of the Republican party are capable of ANYTHING, including getting people to believe that the earth is square. Don't know why I'm wasting my breath. . . .

52. WTF?
A slap in the face? What the fuck is your problem? The president works FOR the people of this country. You act like god forbid he actually spend time with one of us for a second time. Oh no!!!! Not that!!

If he can take a five fucking week vacation for the umpteenth time, he sure as fuck can spend ANOTHER 10 minutes with a mother who has issues with this war. I'm sure that many of those families who haven't met with Bush are pulling for Cindy because she speaks for so many of them.

56. ?? "Cindy isn't helping" ???
You really need to think about what you are saying, Mr. Obvious.

She gave her son's life for a cause she believed in- Which turned out to be a COMPLETE LIE by this ass that claims to be our leader!!

She gave up her son's life to HELP this country!

The only problem here is GWB and his group of lying thugs.

Please, try to think a bit more deeply!

51. Very surprised that MSNBC(which wants to end the war in Iraq) no showed.
Edited on Tue Aug-09-05 06:43 PM by McCamy Taylor
Are they thinking that Thursday will be more dramatic if * thinks that Cindy has no national media coverage and he can safely have her hauled to jail and they plan to cover that? The fact that 4 MSNBC shows were ready to cover her indicates that NBC was ready to promote one more anti-war story, and I cant imagine that they would suddenly change their tune (unless * has awarded GE a gazillion dollar NASA contract to make up for all the dollars it is losing due to the high cost of oil).

OR, maybe now that Keith is back from sick leave, he wants this story.

Sheehan is not a security threat at the moment because the mainstream media is not there (as witnessed to the fact that they all bailed out on her with no explanation.) With Rumsfeld and Rice there, there will most certainly be a very bright media spotlight on Crawford, it will be much more difficult for the Current Regime to strong arm the press away and, thus, Sheehan will get the national media attention that is such a high threat to the Junta's sense of security.

Many in this country are too frightened to speak their mind. We were frightened in Hitlers' Germany in the 30s, we fought back and we are still here. Think about about it! Fight oppression and right wing GOP propanganda.

62. You are a true Sheroe,Cindy! Thank you for your courage to speak the TRUTH
The reason why your story, and other important stories are not being reported properly in MSM:

Who rules the corporate media? OPERATION MOCKINGBIRD,CIA,state media since 1940s

http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/03/284155.shtml

Operation Mockingbird
By Alex Constantine

Who Controls the Media?

Soulless corporations do, of course. Corporations
with grinning, double-breasted executives,
interlocking directorates, labor squabbles and
flying capital. Dow. General Electric. Coca-Cola.
Disney. Newspapers should have mastheads that
mirror the world: The Westinghouse Evening
Scimitar, The Atlantic-Richfield Intelligentser.
It is beginning to dawn on a growing number of
armchair ombudsmen that the public print reports
news from a parallel universe - one that has never
heard of politically-motivated assassinations,
CIA-Mafia banking thefts, mind control, death
squads or even federal agencies with secret budgets
fattened by cocaine sales - a place overrun by lone
gunmen, where the CIA and Mafia are usually on
their best behavior. In this idyllic land, the most
serious infraction an official can commit--is a
the employment of a domestic servant with (shudder)
no residency status.

This unlikely land of enchantment is the creation
of MOCKINGBIRD.

It was conceived in the late 1940s, the most frigid
period of the cold war, when the CIA began a
systematic infiltration of the corporate media, a
process that often included direct takeover of
major news outlets.

--------------------------------------
We will be flooding the WH phone lines demanding the War criminal listen to your brilliance and compassion.

You are amazing!!

kick for the TRUTH!

63. Cindy IS a Threat...
Cindy is a threat to Bush, although not to national security. He can't have her hanging around there...it reminds people that PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY FUCKING DYING IN THIS WAR, and PEOPLE DISAGREE WITH BUSH.

It's pretty easy to forget that when the MSM doesn't cover it much, but oh yes, we get plenty of Missing Blonde Girl In Aruba and Britney Spears blather.

People are getting blown to shit in Iraq, but oh no, where the heck is that Missing Blonde Girl!? Damnit, I just have to find out...maybe in the lake, maybe in the trash dump, maybe stuck underwater in the reef... :sarcasm:

I wonder if they'd cover a missing black girl in Aruba. Hmmm. Or a missing Asian girl. Or anything other than a bleached-blonde, suburban clone. Just wondering.

Bush must have EVERYTHING STAGECRAFTED. He does NOT live in reality. He CAN'T have Cindy out there in front of the media. I bet the neocon, fascist goons called up MSNBC and warned them off of the story.

Like other people have mentioned, NBC is owned by GE, who is a WAR PROFITEER.

:grr:

67. What the Today show was doing that day
Hello all,

While out to lunch that day in Sarasota, FL (home of Katherine Harris, whee) a Today show film crew walked into the Dry Dock restaurant and did some filming. Apparently they're doing a piece about life on Longboat Key; guess they figured that was more important.

*sigh*
