Why does everyone feel they can be on a first name basis with the Senator? Is she like "Madonna" or "Cher"? If someone is running against Sen. Hatch would they say "Orrin should explain his views on ___"?

update: She is running on a platform including "believing in" the Defense of Marriage act because she doesn't "believe" in gay marriage. I guess gays are going to be a major source of Republican campaigns AGAIN next year.
