Is Olberman covering this?
I didn't see anything on his show last night but missed some of it, and tonight's email doesn't mention it. . . but he is covering the runaway bride. :rolls eyes:

1. Not today. He is on kick the smoking habit crusade
which is good, but could have obviously found time for Cindy. I think they are waiting to see what else develops. She was supposed to be on Hardball but it got cancelled; instead they had a Dallas Mavericks owner fuming about Orin Hatch. Something is going on -- wonder if they got spooked -- and they are easily spooked -- by the early article. But if more people join her, she goes to Chicago, they arrest her, etc, the coverage will be back.

5. (MS)NBC seems to have gotten cold feet...
I conservatively got 3 to 5 phone calls a minute. I did about 25 phone interviews and several TV interviews. I did several right-wing radio interviews. I was supposed to do: The Today Show, MSNBC live interview, Connected Coast to Coast (MSNBC) and Hardball (MSNBC). The Today Show just never showed up and the other 3 MSNBC shows cancelled for no reason.

And now, their designated liberal is off the story too... :freak:

8. They are adding tabloid like crazy -- and I am sure KO hates it
but has to play along (even though he admires Peter Jennings for not having done it). Now they added Cosby, and have to give her a plug. It's the Nancy Grace "factor." Just what the WH wants, I am sure, but judging by the ratings, so does the populace, alas

16. Oh, GIVE HIM A BREAK.
I cannot BELIEVE people are so one-issue about the Cindy Sheehan thing that they would throw out the baby with the bath water.

I already said this on another thread, but sheesh...I doubt there is some eevul MSNBC conspiracy keeping Keith away from the story, and I for one trust he will cover it.

It's freaking unbelievable how people will take a short clip of the Runaway Bride mowing a lawn (which he thoroughly made fun of) and act as if that was what his WHOLE SHOW consisted of. Man. He shows stupid and silly clips practically every day. This one was no exception.

And anyone who has had a cancer scare will take some time to recover, too, before moving on to other things.

19. "Military Idol" was his #1 story
And it was a looooong, drawn-out story. For the #1 story. Great choice.

Sorry, but I expect actual news in a news program, particularly when it is spotlighted at #1. I didn't say I wouldn't watch, anymore, but I was thoroughly disgusted by tonight's choices and not simply because a major story was missed.

Yes, he's had a scare and, yes, he probably needs recovery time. That doesn't mean a news program has to suffer because of that.

The #1 story is, eight days out of ten, a silly piece. It's kind of their M.O.

Now, why he's not covering Sheehan yet, I dunno. I guess we'll see....

Just because I like Keith and was in on your KOEB group before you got your own forum - Hell, before you got him a tie - doesn't mean I have to like every little thing he's done or said. I have opinions of my own, thanks.

Tonight's show STUNK. And that's being kind.

29. Well, but if you're gonna pick on the #1 choice for being fluffy...
they *almost always* do that, is what I'm saying, and is a seperate question from the wonderfulness (or lack thereof) of the show as a whole.

Whatever. It's, like, Tuesday, and if he doesn't cover Sheehan *all week* then I'll start wondering. Anyway I have my doubts about whether this will make any difference. Just another flavor of the week here at DU for people to get all torqued up about.

31. This isn't about Cindy Sheehan and it isn't any "flavor of the week"
But thanks for the "whatever."

The entire show was poor, including what was covered. No, he didn't cover Crawford and I was disappointed, but that wasn't the sum-total of my disappointment and I am royally ticked at having to defend an honest criticism of a show. This Keith worship has gone over the top. It's been like talking to my Texas neighbors about their passion for Flush Limbaugh or Junior. God forbid I should disagree! :eyes:

Thanks. I used to like the KOEB. Ya'll have gone waaaay over the top, now.

32. Hey, if your problem is with me, please confine it to me,
as far as I've noticed the rest of the ladies aren't around.

And, what was the rest of your criticism of the show? I'm afraid I only noticed the part about the #1 story being fluffy, which we've discussed. I suppose I assumed the rest of it was about the lack of Cindy Sheehan -- apparently not.

Last I noticed, it wasn't over the top to ask someone to substantiate their criticism. This *is* GD, after all -- GD, meaning, General "Discussion." If I flounce in here and proclaim that Proust sucks, everyone has a right to ask me exactly how and why I think Proust sucks, and also to supply chapter and verse.

33. Take a look at the thread. Recognize anybody?

Each story tonight wasn't up to par. From the Dana Reeve story on down to Military Idol. It was like watching a tabloid show - no substance. On top of that, the fluff pieces were far too long. I stated I didn't like tonight's show and suddenly I'm "self-righteous," etc. and so on. :eyes: And, no, they didn't care *why* I didn't like it, just that I dared not to like it, at all. The nerve of me!

You're right, this is General Discussion. It's not the KOEB forum. If I went there (you may flounce, I certainly do not) and said I didn't like it, I might expect such behavior, although I'd be more inclined to expect a rational discussion. It's gone beyond fan club and is eerily reminiscent of my neighbors.

If I don't like one of Keith's shows, I'm going to say so if the question comes up, just as it did tonight and quite understandably. To do any less would be dishonest.

34. I *always* flounce! :)
It's way more fun that way.

The only other KOEB regular I see in this thread (besides me) is Berry, fwiw. And, as far as (our) getting shirty, it just gets old, you know, around here. Olbermann's not covering Sheehan, everyone's pet story, and all of a sudden he turns into Mr. Evil. Happens like clockwork at DU, every time Olbermann doesn't cover something people think he should they sit around and bitch like he's in *their* employ. Same thing happens to Jon Stewart. It gets old. They're their own people, they don't "belong to" us like some around here seem to think they do, and if they don't wanna cover a story (or if Stewart wants to be nice to Santorum, remember the reaction to THAT?), then that's their thing.

You didn't like the show as a whole, fine, that's your opinion, and I ain't got no beef with that. The rest of the thread (including the OP) is largely about the lack of coverage of the Sheehan story, which I happen to think is only going to get more worth covering as the week wears on.

21. I`ll give him no break. A Democratic President who had a grieving
mother and many other protestors camped outside his vacation spot. Would be the top story and not runaway brides or missing blondes in Aurba. He has always teased liberals with a carrot and that is about it. If cancer is stopping him from doing his job then he should not go to work. But Keith is just another media prostitute for Bu$h Inc. and his bosses tell him what he can and cannot say. Nobody could even come close to proving me wrong on this. Because if Clinton had done the exact same things Bu$h has done he would have been toast. And anyone with a slight bit of objectivity knows it.

This is why we don't win - because we turn on our own for one little fault.

At this time it certainly appears to be NBC corporate policy not to cover this story (given their three canceled interviews in one day). I'm not saying that Keith supports said policy, but if he gets canned, then the only liberal voice with any courage is off the air.

Give him a chance is all I'm saying. I'm sure he'll get around to it when it starts to escalate.

23. Well, I suggest that people can the self-righteous condemnation a bit
and give a little consideration to someone who has just spent the past week spitting up blood, convinced he had cancer.

If it were you, maybe you too would find it a bit difficult to do YOUR job at your usual pace.

Keith has never let us down before and has never, never behaved like a media whore for Bush or for anyone else. Far from it.

People seem to forget, this is the ONE MAN in the MSM who tried, desperately tried, to keep the Ohio voting irregularities story alive...long after others had condemned him to Tinfoil-Hat-Land for it.

I, for one, am going to trust him to get to everything when the time is right.

27. Oh, please
Get a grip. Just because I didn't like the show tonight doesn't make me self-righteous. And if someone is so bad off they have trouble doing their job, it's called 'sick leave'. If they're that bad off they deserve it, but if they're not, suggesting they are would probably be considered an insult. If he's present at work, I have to assume he isn't that bad off and wouldn't appreciate people saying he needs extra "consideration." I know I wouldn't have liked it, myself. I would've found it degrading. But, what would I know? I've only been there myself.

Just because I like the show doesn't make me an apologist for every single show. Tonight's was pitiful.

28. So tonight's show is "pitiful?"
KO on his worst night is soo much better than Tucker and "The Situation" and whatever Rita Cosby's new show is. They are truly "PITIFUL."
I guess if I'd been off work for a week after having surgery, during which time I was worrying about whether or not I had cancer I might not be quite up to par. Coupled this with Peter Jenning's death and having to report on that to boot the day Keith came back.
Sheesh.

30. Keith, of all people, wouldn't appreciate knee-jerk defending
He's not perfect. Live with it. He does. Just because other shows are bad, doesn't mean he gets a pass because his wasn't AS bad today as their's generally are. Now THAT would be pitiful.

If you don't like honest criticism of a show, don't go looking for the honest criticism. Read the KOEB forum where you can talk about what he was wearing, instead. I expect more than a good wardrobe these days. But, do, please continue and try to stifle honest dissent. I know how much Keith appreciated having his honest dissent stifled while at Faux.

I've been EXACTLY where he's been, so stop insulting him and those of us who've been there by making excuses that suggest the guy is incapacitated in some way and needs time, consideration, etc. We don't. We're perfectly capable, thankyouverymuch.

Tonight's show was pitiful. It was not informative and, being a news show, that is inexusable. Was it funny? Mildly. But that's not it's brief.

Please cut the guy some slack and give him a break. I truly believe he's on "our side." He was off all last week, had a tumor (luckily benigh) removed from the roof of his mouth. He returned to work just last night (Monday),and did the story on Peter Jennings.
I just found out about this a short while when I read his blog. Please read about it here:
