Anti-MS Group Aims to Block Vista

UPDATED A public interest lawyer who is also intending to run as a Republican in the 2006 Illinois gubernatorial race is taking his fight to Microsoft in hopes of preventing the company from releasing what he calls "bad code."

Andy Martin of The Committee to Fight Microsoft on Tuesday announced his intentions to block Microsoft from releasing Windows Vista. Martin intends to ask Microsoft for an unconditional warranty that the operating system is free of bugs that could result in security vulnerabilities.

"Bill Gates sells the public defective products, and then expects us to spend years being his guinea pigs, while he corrects the myriad of defects and vulnerabilities in his defective code. This is mass consumer fraud." Martin argued.

1. A Republican "Public Interest" Lawyer...
going against big business...? I am so confused! I'd say the tide is turning in favor of common sense even amongst the repubs, but somehow can't see it. Maybe he's really a very devious Dem trying to work from within the system - the anti-Zell Miller with a constituency of every frustrated PC owner...now that is a LARGE base!

Thanks for the update !

2. Sounds like the perfect standard-bearer for the Party of Keyes
yet another complete, total whack job!

3. Curious...why does this issue make him
"whack-job"? Just speculating here, but do you run on the MAC system or are you more technically able than I am (which includes most of the population under 50)?

This issue actually includes almost all electoral bases INCLUDING whatever side you are on re: abortion, gay marriage, "Christian RW-ers..." Get everyone but MAC users and you definitely have the majority of the population. He's crazy like a fox, I think.

4. I quite agree that Microsoft bites the big one
using its bad code as a political platform, however, does strike me as, um, a bit outside the mainstream.

5. I respectfully disagree...
..it's like being against junk mail. Why didn't WE think of that? Maybe we could build our platform against telephone soliciting during the dinner-hour (family values). And then get the phone companies on our side to irritate the hell out of everyone? We'd have the votes from everyone except the homeless.

Cynical, yes - but maybe we have to get creative. Lord knows the repugs pull out all the stops. How many people relate to the gay marriage, abortion issues that sunk us this last election? Probably more of us than them. But everyone relates to the above. Let's hit everyone where they really, actually live!

Although, I have to admit - without Bill Gates & Co - we wouldn't be having this conversation.
