40. I have been reading the posts about what to bring to Crawford, the one

thing I haven't seen is a firstaid kit for fireant bites.

Whoever is going try to bring some cotton balls, isopropyl rubbing alcohol, and absorbine jr, fireant bites are a little painful.

I was bitten by fireants when I was cutting grass, and I was wearing socks and shoes. With all this rain the fireants will be coming to the surface, be careful where you sit.

I wish I could be there but I have to work this weekend.

Try not to sit on the ground. Fire ant bites are painful, you need to treat them quickly.

I have about 15 or so fireant bites on my right foot, it did swell a little. I don't want to scare everyone away but just be careful.

You have to get the yellow stuff they sell in hardware stores especially for fire ants. I forgot the name, but another DUer called it Andros. You put a bunch of it over the ant hill if you know where it is, but also a little perimeter around your tent works pretty well too.

I had an infestation of them in our trailer and they even came into our bed. The yellow stuff got rid of them and very quickly too. The only thing that worked for the bites was alcohol, betadine and time.

I found slathering yourself with deet based insect repellents wards off bites, but you don't really want to use the heavy hunters deet unless you can shower it off everyday. I found Skintastic, which has deet, is a better choice and pretty effective most of the time for all kinds of insect bites including mosquitos.
