Suggestion for any artists/writers going to Crawford

I'm taking along a sketchbook in order to create a visual diary of the experience. When I return I hope to post the drawings on the web to share with everyone.

So please remember to take along your journals and sketchbooks, and maybe some extras for the children there so we can get their unique perspective of the event. Who knows -- maybe we could post the drawings/writings to one site as a tribute to Cindy.

Just a thought. Hope to meet some of you there!

1. Gods speed, and thanks......

Be sure to sketch fast if they try a mass arrest or tear gas....some of the most moving scenes of the Kent State Shootings were by Chuck Ayers of the Akron Beacon Journal. (as I am a photog, wondering if you like to sketch from photos....that would capture the action)

2. Ha-ha! Yeah, I sketch pretty quickly

Hopefully, though, we won't see any of the kind of action you described!

I prefer not to draw from photos. Photography is its own personal expression, unique to the eye of that photographer, just as drawing is unique to the eye of the artist involved. Speaking for myself, I can't really create a deeply personal experience like that by simply reinterpreting it via someone else's vision. There's always something lost in the translation. A picture of a picture, whether it's a photo of a painting or vice versa, just isn't the same for me.

3. i completely understand.....

I know the whole world is watching.....so it will be covered. Thanks for going, this could be the turning point for the anti-war movement. BTW, I was in downtown Kent on Sunday, and there were about fifteen protestors on the town square........bless them. I have to go get some photos to post here. I'll be watching for your work.
