5 more soldiers dead. Bush to fly to Illinois to sign bill
President Bush is signing a whopping $286.4 billion transportation bill that lawmakers stuffed with plenty of cash for some 6,000 pet projects back home.

Bush is hitting the road Wednesday to sign the highway bill into law in Aurora, Ill., the second time this week he's traveling from his Texas ranch to highlight recently passed legislation....

It is fitting that the president is signing this legislation in Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert's district, Ashdown said, "because the speaker's district has the third highest amount of highway pork in the nation."

The bill contains more than 6,371 special projects valued at more than $24 billion, or about 9 percent of the bill's total cost, he said. The distribution of the money for these projects "is based far more on political clout than on transportation need," Ashdown said.

1. Maybe asshat can have a Happy 1900 party
at his fake ranch with everybody dressed as cowboys and everything. Of course they have to clear the road of that dangerous Sheehan woman first.

I've had it. This is bullshit. Everybody and their mother has to come to DC on the 24th.

2. It's only upsetting
if you mistakenly think of those dead soldiers as human beings. If you think that they used to breath, think, eat, love, walk, talk, and all those things that make humans .... well, human, then you feel bad they were killed. You'll feel compassion for their families and neighbors and especially the children they leave behind. But in doing so, you are giving aid and comfort to the enemies.

Instead, think of this entirely as the terriblists testing General Bush's resolve. Because that's all it really amounts to. The fact that he has to deal with commie reporters asking him about these dead soldiers, who really don't count as human beings because they are dead, should make us feel compassion for him. Because this is really all about George.

What does George think? How does George feel? Does George have any funny jokes that will make the dead soldiers' families forget their pain? Can George inspire us all to a point where we will see more dead soldiers as a good thing? A sign of George's strength?

We as Americans can do a better job of supporting George. After all, there is no distinction between God's will and George's will.

6. Yesterday
I read a number of really good posts about how ven strange men like LBJ and Tricky Dick were haunted by the deaths of the young soldiers they sent to Vietnam. And that is true: both men had psychological break-downs that were, in large part, caused by the guilt they felt. (They both certainly had a lot going on, but late at night, including in LBJ's infamous nightmares, the death of the young soldiers was key.)

Compare that to Bush.

7. But if * is going to Illinois to sign the bill, won't he have to leave the
ranch and drive past Cindy who's waiting for him? This should be interesting . . .
