Rumsfeld Announces America Supports You Freedom Walk >
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 12:10 PM by Stephanie

American Supports You Freedom?

What about You, Life? And You, Pursuit of Happiness? No Walk for YOU?

This is priceless. First they LIHOP, now, on the four year anniversary of my neighbors leaping to their deaths from 100 stories, crushed to death, burned alive, now, they are throwing a party to celebrate.

This reminds me of the video of the burning towers Bush used to show at his campaign rallies. And the WTC imagery in his convention stage set. After all, 9/11 is still his greatest accomplishment. Why not celebrate with Clint Black?!

Can we, I don't know, SHAME them out of this idea? Or should we register, and join the walk, and show Rummy what Democracy looks like?

Rumsfeld Announces America Supports You Freedom Walk

As part of the Department of Defense effort to commemorate Sept. 11, 2001, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld today announced the first-ever “America Supports You Freedom Walk” to remember the victims of Sept. 11, 2001, to honor U.S. troops and veterans, and to highlight the value of freedom.

The “America Supports You Freedom Walk” will begin at 10 a.m., EDT, Sunday, Sept. 11, and follow a two-mile route from the Pentagon to Arlington National Cemetery, across Memorial Bridge, passing several national memorials and ending on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. At the conclusion of the walk, participants will be invited to a concert by country music singer and songwriter Clint Black.

The “America Supports You Freedom Walk” is free and open to the public. Individuals interested in walking must register to participate at www.americasupportsyou.mil . Registration closes at 10 a.m. EDT on Friday, Sept. 9, 2005.

The “America Supports You Freedom Walk” will be preceded by a private ceremony for the families of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. The Pentagon Memorial Fund is sponsoring the ceremony and additional information is available at www.pentagonmemorial.net .

To arrange an interview with the “America Supports You Freedom Walk” spokesperson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Allison Barber, please contact Tech. Sgt. Eileen Lainez, USAF, at (703) 697-5131.

“America Supports You” is a nationwide program launched by DoD to recognize citizens’ support for U.S. military men and women and communicate that support to members of American Forces at home and abroad. Information on the program is found at www.americasupportsyou.mil .

1. You have to register to walk?
That doesn't sound like freedom to me. Just business as usual for those guys. So, what happenes if you aren't registered? I wonder how they could keep people from walking.

9. I don't know and it's preposterous to have to register
Those people are coordinating a war and yet they're afraid of their own shadows when it comes to events.

5. Well, they have to get check the database
and make sure there are no 'national security threats' in the crowd.

I am SOOOOOO hoping the 9/11 Families come out with a statement about this psy-ops attempt by the Bush etal to again abuse what happened on 9/11 for political support. Blurring the lines with Iraq and 9/11 is a never ending operation for these people; it's disgusting.

But, hey! Let's have a party while our soldiers are putting their lives on the line. Let's all join in a big ole' hoe-down and tap our little feetsies in patriotic support that will be propagandized photo-ops for the 2006 elections! Heee-Haw!!!

10. Don't forget the concert afterwards
http://www.theage.com.au/news/world/pentagon-announces-september-11-concert/2005/08/10/1123353364623.html
The Pentagon would hold a massive march and country music concert to mark the fourth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an announcement tucked into an Iraq war briefing today.

"This year the Department of Defence will initiate an America Supports Your Freedom Walk," Rumsfeld said, adding that the march would remind people of "the sacrifices of this generation and of each previous generation".

The march will start at the Pentagon, where nearly 200 people died on September 11, 2001, and end at the National Mall with a show by country star Clint Black.

12. Typical repug twist...
How dare them!

I'm all for honoring those who lost their lives on 9/11, but by calling this a "Freedom Walk" they are insinuating that we are fighting for our freedom because of those who lost their lives on Sept 11, 2001. They will twist this for support of the current Iraq war. They need this now since the Iraq war approval rating is less than 40%.

I think we should stay out of the walk, because they will say that we do not have respect for those who died.

We would be better off with a counter walk stating:

The Bush administration is USING the names of those who died on Sept 11, to support their lies!
