Good News: The Sheehan story IS spreading
I spoke to my sister over lunch today and I used her as a test subject. A little bit of background: My sister is in her late 20s, she's a high school teacher (which means right now she's a stay-at-home mom), she lives in a tiny town in western Iowa. She voted for Clinton, Gore, and Kerry, but is otherwise completely politically inactive. She doesn't get her news from the internet beyond her Yahoo homepage and maybe cnn.com. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: Did you hear about that woman in Crawford? (I was being purposefully vague)
Sister: What?
Me: The woman that's camping out in Crawford.
Sister: OMG, YES! Is that the woman whose son was killed in Iraq?
Me: Yeah.
Sister: Yeah! And when she met with him before he didn't even know her son's name? Like, he came into the room and said "who're we honoring today" or something? OMG.
Me: Yup, that's her...
Sister: And now she wants to talk to him again right?
Me: Yeah, but he won't talk to her.
Sister: Well no kidding, he's got one pissed off mom after him! I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't blame her. If that bastard killed my son...well, I already hate him, but god, what a jackass.
Me: Well, the interesting thing is that she wasn't an activist before this. She like, went down there all by herself.
Sister: Really?
Me: Yeah. She just wanted to talk to him. Of course, lots of Dem groups are supporting her now!
Sister: Good!
Me: Did you hear that Bush threatened to arrest her?
Sister: WHAT?!
Me: Apparently she's a threat to national security.
Sister: Holy crap, what a bastard.

Etc...anyway, she KNEW about it. Sure, obviously not all the details, but she knew what I meant by "that woman in Crawford" and her only source of news is completely MSM. It's spreading. :applause: :woohoo:

3. Don't want to be a party pooper but
the key phrase is "I already hate him"
Chickenhawks who don't "already hate him" will spew the usual crap about the troops who knew what they signed up for etc. The right-wing hate machine is working overtime to shit all over Cindy...

After what they did to american soldiers like McCain, Kerry, or Hackett... No surprises there

:grr:

4. Yes, she does already hate him
but the point is, she KNEW about it. She only hears news from MSM sources and somehow, she heard about it. I'm not claiming that Cindy converted her.

She didn't "change" her story. George Bush changed his.

14. Welcome to DU, but you are wrong
Unsavory so called "News" outlets changed
her story by cherry picking bits and pieces
and presenting them in a distorted version
of reality. She has been consistent in her stance from
the beginning.
In case you have not been paying attention,
this method of distorting and editing the truth
to discredit anyone who dares to question the
illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq for
corporate profits by using and abusing our military
men and women, is the standard operating procedure
of the liars, thieves and jackboots who have lied
this country into an UNjust war.
Welcome to DU, stick around and maybe you'll
learn some truth.
Oh, and we highly recommend that you stop watching
Fox news, it is the first step in your recovery from
corporate brainwashing.

25. Of course CJ has to deal with an actual press corps
you know, one that asks relevant, hard questions? Too bad they're fictional. Scotty wouldn't know what hit him if his job was like a West Wing script.

26. My mom heard and had plenty of opinions about it herself
This is significant bcs my mom is very much of a "don't tell me I don't want to know" type of person and she has known nothing abour virtually anything we discuss here. Her bottom line was she didn't understand why Bush couldn't at least talk to her now.

30. That is good news!

I filled my boss in when I asked for PTO again today to head to Texas. He asked me what for, I said to support Cindy Sheehan the mom who wants questions answered from Bush.

He kinda went into his :wtf: face and said where do you get this stuff? Then he did a search and is all on the know now, still won't give me PTO :(

33. i did a similar test with my boss
My boss is a mother of a 5 year old and has a very busy schedule. So she has to rely on MSM. She knew of the story and when I said that they might arrest her tomrrow, my boss just shook her head and said unbelievable.

34. Just talked to my mom today and she knew all about Cindy!
My mom doesn't get a newspaper, but watches TV news (usually CBS) and not only knew about Cindy, but was SO mad that Bush wouldn't talk to her! Not only that, when I told her about the possibility of Cindy being arrested she was outraged! So the msg is DEFINITELY getting out there...

BTW - My mom and I were talking about how the Repugs bill themselves as the 'party that supports vets', and my mom said "What a load of bull..." She then proceeded to tell me about thousands of WWI vets who protested and camped out in DC about pay they were owed, who were beaten down by none other than Douglas MacArthur! I was like, wtf? Are you sure about this, mom? I went online, and sure enough, Wikipedia has info on it.

They were called the 'Bonus Army'. excerpt from Wikipedia: "The marchers were cleared and their camps were destroyed by federal cavalry troops under the command of General Douglas MacArthur, in a possible violation of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878. MacArthur claims he was ordered by the president to remove the veterans, but no such letter was ever sent. This is debatable since the incident took place in federal territory rather than state lands. Dwight D. Eisenhower, as a member of MacArthur's staff, had strong reservations about the operation, and George Patton was also ordered to take part in the operation. Tanks and troops with rifles and 2,500 tear gas cannisters were sent into the Bonus Expeditionary Force's camps. President Hoover did not want the army to march across the Anacostia River, but Douglas MacArthur felt this was a communist attempt to overthow the government. Hundreds of veterans were injured, several were killed, including William Hushka and Eric Carlson, a wife of a veteran miscarried, and other such casualties were inflicted. The army burned down the BEF's tents and used tear gas. "

Aren't moms great?! The things you learn...
GO CINDY!!!

37. Yay!!
That's totally awesome that she knew about it.

I talked to my mom about it too. Unfortunately, since all she watches is Fox "news" (yes, she's a republican, don't ask), she thinks Cindy's been brainwashed by Michael Moore. But hey, she did know about it. :eyes:
