My message to Subway
Please, please tell me that Subway is not a sponsor of the Freedom Walk on 9/11/05 in Washington DC. I cannot think of a more terrible way to use commercial exploitation to 'celebrate' what was one of the worst days on US soil.

I gave up Blimpie years ago for Subway and I would hate to have to go back to their inferior product if I find that Subway is indeed a sponsor of this event. My co-workers and I visit Subway about once a week and trust me - I'd have no problem working on shifting their loyalty on this - we had co-workers affected by 9/11 and are quick to act on anyone, anyone who tries to capitalize on it.

Please, take some time to think about what 'good' corporate sponsorship means - and supporting the right events, not some craven event that throws a party on a day of rememberance.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my message.

1. Actually- we should pay close attention and boycott all sponsors of this
And bombard them with letters of protest by the thousands. Any corporate who sponsors this event should hear from us about this.

Let's keep track of who signs on for this and DU every corporate sponsor of this march (and spread the word to other progressives to do the same).

2. Very well written!

Do you have a Quizno's around you? I've found them to be ten times better then Subway or Blimpie's!

I'm torn though - I have to go to work for Subway and, after learning about this, I really don't want to. I can't understand how they can support this crap.

4. Yep, we have Quizno's
And other places. Actually, there are some good local shops that will fill the bill nicely. AND, I'll let them know why they're now getting my business.

Getting the message out...one word at a time....

3. Hadn't heard about this before: List of DC sponsors...
http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Aug2005/20050809_2376.html

The walk was made possible with the help of several local in-kind supporters, including Stars and Stripes newspaper, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Subway, Washington Post, Lockheed Martin, WTOP, ABC/WJLA-TV Channel 7 and News Channel 8, and the Washington Convention & Tourism Corporation, according to the Freedom Walk Web site.

WaPo and subway are the only ones that actually see business from me, and Subway won't be a hard sacrifice. There are better, locally owned and independent sandwich shops in my area.
