Girl, 8, Killed by Tree at Boy Scout Camp

OK these tragedies are getting weird. Please, no "God is punishing the Scouts", but is this a yearly occurrence at Boy Scout camps and we just haven't heard the stories or what? And being killed at a first aid lesson is eerie.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - An 8-year-old girl died and three others were injured Wednesday when a tree fell on them during a first-aid class at a Boy Scout camp, authorities said.

The girls were participating in the class at an overnight camp when the 31-foot tree suddenly snapped, crashing through a tarp over a picnic table at which they were sitting, Police Chief Kenneth Flatt said.

"It was an accident. There was no warning. There wasn't a whole lot anybody could do," said Flatt.

The tree landed on the 8-year-old girl's head. She was pronounced dead at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin.

1. I know this is sad and tragic... but still... gawd must really hate scouts

I'm not going to go all Fred-Phelps and start dancing on the graves of children proclaiming "God Hates Scouts," but there is a definite pattern.

There's now been seven (I think) scouts killed this sumer?

4 by setting a tent under an electrical cable
2 by lightning
1 by falling tree
And something like 300 treated for heat stroke while waiting for The Chimp in Chief to grace them with his presence.

If it were ACLU members being struck-down out of the sky, I know what Jerry Falwell would be saying.

2. The outdoors suck.

I learned that as a child. Glad I didn't see too many serious injuries those days I spent at summer camp.

3. Every troop is somebody's little scout, remember!

Wow, it keeps going.

After the last one, I had this thought, when I saw Bush with all the recruitment balloons over the scout jamboree. Every troop is somebodies little boy or girl, sombodies little scout. No matter how old they are. So its bitterly ironic that death should be hitting the scouts, but tragedy is bigger than just that. You got to think of the kids killed in Iraq, and our troops, etc.
