has anyone heard of this strange virus going around?
Apparently, there is some type of virus going around. The symptoms are getting really hot, passing out, convulsions, general weaknesses, and a feeling of fainting.

I have known 4 people to have this, they all went to the hospital and were put on a heavy antibiotic for 5 days. What is this going around. One person I spoke with said they swear it is some type of biological attack or something...Has anyone heard of this or have a name for it?
This is not from the heat as all of these people were in ac when they started passing out.

Any info is appreciated. I can't find anything about a virus with these symptoms on the cdc site.

I haven't heard of it, but antibiotics seem like a bloody useless way to treat a virus. Sure it's not some sort of bacterial infection?

2. It can't be a virus if they were put on antibiotics.
Antibiotics don't do anything against viral infections. It must be bacterial.

5. Yeah, it's called Rumsfeld's Malaise.
People have been suffering for years now with it. It's a particularly nasty strain of the e-Bushola virus. Lot of vomit and shitz.

9. hahahaha
I don't know what it is...I'm in Louisville, KY

But I know people from Southern Indiana have had it too.

I thought the same thing, why the antibiotics, I have contacted everyone I know of that had it and they are all put on the same type of antibiotic...I'm just wondering if this is happening anywhere else or if maybe someone knows what it could be.

Sometimes antibiotics are given to prevent secondary infections.

7. MRSA
There was an article on the news about a new antibiotic resistant strain of Staph with the symptoms you mentioned. It is called MRSA.

8. No idea, but it must be bacterial if they were able to treat it with
antibiotics. I hope it's a short-lived outbreak.

11. Here in Central Ky we are having an outbreak of Shigellosis
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 07:22 PM by alfredo
It's not the same thing you are experiencing.

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/shigellosis_g.htm

Shigellosis is an infectious disease caused by a group of bacteria called Shigella. Most who are infected with Shigella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps starting a day or two after they are exposed to the bacterium. The diarrhea is often bloody. Shigellosis usually resolves in 5 to 7 days. In some persons, especially young children and the elderly, the diarrhea can be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. A severe infection with high fever may also be associated with seizures in children less than 2 years old. Some persons who are infected may have no symptoms at all, but may still pass the Shigella bacteria to others.

BTW, I am a Shively native, but I got over it.

13. Virus? Antibiotics given, yes. To curb rise of bacteria in weak body
body weak from virus, then a bystanding bacteria can rise up and attack as well.

so an antibiotic is logical when sick from a virus.

conclusion:
the bug you speak of might be either a virus or bacterium.

What general area are you in?

The earlier post about MRSA or whatever the acronym is, is one i also have heard of. Look into that.

Might be mild cases of West Nile, from mosquitoes. It comes in all degrees of severity, even "you dont know you have it".

14. symptoms could mean many disorders: lab tests of fluids
seem to be needed to be sure.

I would think those symp"s could indicate dozens of diseases, if not hundreds.

I think there are 5000 ailments catalogued by science.

Diagnostician is the specialty that only diagnoses all day long.
Got thousands to throw at such a fellow? That is what it would take, i imagine. In the US, that is. Other industrialized natins have free dr"s.

25 outlive us in the US.
we are 72nd in the health status of the population. Seventy secondth.
