I know I am a Queen size pain in the arse...But is TWO hours
of Peter Jennings life in memoriam a little much. Disney certainly has ever right but this seems a little over the top. Is it because it is summer and this is better than re-runs? Many more famous people have died that were not given a 2 hour special.

How did he get so far w/o a HS diploma?
WHY did he never get a GED?
Could that happen today?

1. 2 hours?!
It took a week to bury Reagan. Same with the Pope, and he wasn't even embalmed. P.U!

12. "... how many Catholics are there in the world?"
Probably more Catholics than ex-Presidents.

You don't have to watch the Peter Jennings thing. Is your remote lost? ;)

3. His dad was head of the news department at CBC
Back in the day, a lot of kids would 'apprentice' and go into their father's fields without formal education. Once he was established I think his abilities got him where he is and the high school diploma was not necessary, although I understand he was always sensitive about not having one.

He quit when offered a pretty face position and went back to the field and earned his props starting back at the bottom.

6. Come on. America jizzed all over itself when the TV series "MASH"
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 09:54 PM by swag
ended.

There was even a overly-extended and continually mobbed exhibition for the TV series "MASH" at the American History Museum in Washington, DC. An major exhibition for a twinky TV show at the American History Museum.

2 hours for Peter Jennings is small spuds. In fucking good taste even, compared to most of what goes on around these parts.

8. Life's not fair. Every famous person doesn't get two hours, others get
days, and weeks. Give the man his due. If you don't want to watch it, don't. It's not that big a deal.

Turn off the TV and hop on the net. Boycott the Pentagon propaganda coming out through the tube while the net still exists as it does now.

or some other piece of crap. Do you have a problem with that? They weren't pre-empting some news special.

25. Ms. Sheehan is doing a wonderful thing, but I don't agree with your
assessment. Peter Jennings did a lot more than "just reporting" for decades.

26. "just reporting" that was his job
it was never about him, but rather WHAT he was reporting. Whe they do 'a lot more' they get themselves in trouble.

it was being made. SOOOOOOOOOOOO much is happening right NOW and I resent that MSM CHOOSES to spend 2 hours on this, not what is important. ONE more excuse for NOT doing there job.

30. But it's not like they bumped real news coverage for him
like they did for Reagan all week...they were going to show Brat Camp, so I'd say spending 2 hours celebrating this man's life on ABC wasn't such a travesty.

13. No. Journalists are communities of people too. Their choice how they
want to celebrate the guy's life. And think of all the good that will come out of it. All the stories on Radon & quitting smoking.
More than a thousand people will quit.

Important.

14. Given what he's done...
I think he's worthy of it. He accomplished a lot, and opened people's eyes on a lot of things. Sure, he's just one of many, but he did it so visibly and commanded a lot of respect by trying to be as ethical as possible in the process.

27. Two hours - without commercials...
And although the focus was on his life, it recapped a lot of major issues that were covered during his career - many of which are still relevant: homelessness, war, the impact of tobacco, the current situation in Iraq, the Middle East issue, religion and its impact, the India/Pakistani conflict and the nuclear implications....

Yeah, why spend two hours on recapping Peter Jenning's career when the station could be showing another "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" special....
