OCEAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - An 8-year-old girl died and three others were injured Wednesday when an oak tree crashed down on them during a first-aid class at a Boy Scout camp, authorities said.

The girls were attending an overnight camp when the 31-foot tree snapped and crashed through a tarp over a picnic table, landing on the girl's head, Police Chief Kenneth Flatt said.

The counselor who had been teaching the first aid class administered CPR, but the girl was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Manahawkin.

2. As an atheist whose kids are not eligible for scouting and the

brother-in-law of a gay woman, I sort of wonder if the Boy Scouts, who twice went to the Supreme Court to have themselves declared a religious organization that was free to blatantly discriminate, really have God on their side.

They seem like a bunch of incompetants to me. I'm glad my kids are ineligible for membership in their organization.
