Have the gas prices gone up in England since 2000?

From what I understand, gas prices in England were around $5.00 per gallon when we were paying $.99. Now, that we are paying close to $3.00 per gallon, has the amount per gallon risen at the same rate as it has here?

3. They can't have the same percent increase because how high taxes are.

They inherently have a higher base and thus it is much harder to have the same percent increase.

4. It was about 76p per litre when we left England a few years ago.

It's now on average 89.5p per litre. It was 85p per litre during the 2000 fuel crisis.

It's not possible to gauge the price over there by what we pay in the US, or even by a £ to $ conversion (because the exchange rate fluctuates). UK petrol prices aren't governed by the same rules as here; 70% of it is tax, for instance, and the remaining 30% or so moves up (and less frequently, down) often without rhyme or reason. Although I guess you could say the same thing about here. ;)
