Bush meets with defense, foreign policy teams

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush, taking a break from a day of discussions with his administration's top advisers, said Thursday he understands and respects the views of anti-war advocates like the woman camped outside his Texas ranch to mourn the loss of her son, but that it would be a mistake to bring U.S. troops home now.

Bush said he had "heard the voices of those who say pull out now, and I've thought about it."

"They are crying," he said, and they want to reduce U.S. losses in war-torn Iraq.

Bush said he understood their pain. But on the issue of withdrawing troops, he said: "I just strongly disagree. Pulling our troops out would send a terrible signal to the enemy."

Bush spoke to reporters as he played host to his administration's top national security, foreign policy and defense advisers.

In all fairness, Bush did at least deal with the question of Sheehan and others she represents in his news conference.

He also mentioned her by name.

Difficult to defend him, but we shouldn't skew the facts.

11. heard on a CBS radio at top of the hour

on AAR affiliate here also. Was traveling (in and out of broadcast signal) and heard he mentioned her. The story also mentioned the size of the group had grown, but no mention of numbers. There sounded like live music coming from the crowd.

What i did hear, and it sounded pretty clear to me at least, was when *moron mentioned Cindy Sheehan, and her pain, it sounded like he laughed. . . not a laugh out loud, but that voice he uses when he is trying to get across a subject that he doesn't think anyone understands, and he's 'splainin' to the little people his understanding (or lack thereof) of the subject.
