Activist groups continue to organize and fight to save one of the most unspoiled stretches in the world, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. On July 21, the Rally Van Tour kicked off in Washington D.C. and continues across the country. During the next week, the vans and the Johnathan Waterman Book Tour will be in several cities in Illinois, as well as Michigan, Wyoming, Minnesota and Wisconsin. PIRG’s nationwide “Don’t Drill On Me” tour, with its fleet of oil derricks, has also been criss-crossing the country. Find Events in your state and don’t forget to Show Your Colors.
On September 20, the National Wildlife Federation is joining activist groups and sponsoring “Don’t Drill, Storm The Hill” in an effort to remove ANWR from the budget or encourage a NO vote. “There are some places that should be off-limits to oil drilling, and the Arctic Refuge is one of them.” Learn more and sign up to attend.
Getting help from an unlikely source, 24 GOP Congressmen have delivered a letter to Speaker Hastert saying the budget "is an inappropriate venue to be debating this important environmental issue.” The effort is being led by Rep. Jeb Bradley of NH, who is being joined by the Science, Judiciary and Government Reform committee chairmen.
This fight is a long way from over.
