A Word To All That Question The Tactics Being Used By Cindy Sheehan.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 02:43 PM by DistressedAmerican
I keep seeing posts second guessing the tactics being employed by Cindy Sheehan. Some have gone as far as saying that she does not really know what she is doing, does not know what she is asking, etc.

Here's the bottom line from me:

When you start having the impact that Cindy is, I will listen to something you have to say. Until then I have no interest in your naysaying and negativity. Save it!

This woman is kicking ass like no one that we have seen since the war started. Any of you that think you know better than she does need to put up or shut up.

This is THE EVENT that is pulling all of the anti-war groups together. Bush looks like the weasel that he is.

Stop second guessing what is clearly a wildly effective strategy!

of Jim Crow, so what did she really accomplish?

Nothing... and everything.

38. Because just like now
Rosa wasn't trying to win his specific heart and mind, she wanted to bring the public opinion around to her righteous and worthy cause. Now, I don't want to compare our idiot son to someone who is driving a bus, unless we say he's trying to drive that bus over a cliff, but the analogy still stands - Cindy is not trying to win his heart or his mind (does he have either?) but to bring the public opinion around to her righteous and worthy cause.

And because she is doing it wholly without artifice, she may well take down this fascist government and its illegal, immoral war without ever firing a shot.

4. Oh phoeey on those people
It's always the SAME suspects who start wringing their hands about these things...

- Don't mention Palestine
- Don't mention Mumia
- Don't mention Diebold
- Don't mention IWR
- Don't mention..
- Don't mention...

To the point that they're such a zip-lipped hindrance to our cause that I want nothing to do with them. Screw them. It's time to separate the wheat from the chaff and get on with our business.

With all the death around us I have NO PATIENCE for those people. Frankly, I don't believe they even think they're on our side; I certainly don't.

7. Second Guessing? What else can she do!
Most of us have fought our own causes with letters, e-mails, phone calls, you name it..we get no results, whatever our cause. Good for Cindy. I admire her courage. I hope I would have the strength to do the same. Her loss and suffering is worse than most of us, her courage greater. My complaints about health care, unemployment, cost of fuel etc. pale in comparison. I hope she is able to make a difference.

I don't agree with everything she says myself, but that is SOOOO not the point. They started this war with lies and they continue it with lies. No matter what, there won't be any resolution in Iraq until the lies stop. She is getting attention on that and that's the most important thing.

Find the things she says that you support and highlight them, STFU about everything else.

Cindy's got MSM and internet coverage... And the thing is, this started because a mom was fed up. This wasn't organized, no matter how the sweet neocons want to spin it. The Dem leadership has actually looked like they were afraid to be involved in it, except for Conyers and the Band of REAL Brothers and Sisters who make up the heart of the Democratic party... Now, other people are looking and saying, yeah, I want to be with her - good for them!

This is the beginning of a massive psychological change, IMHO. I wouldn't try to stop it - you might get run over! :)

21. So you decide what people can say? Liberal authoritarians.
Emotion is not reason. You are in love, and you hate it when people criticize the object of your affections. You ought to calm down instead of getting all dramatically silly.

If Sheehan said something stupid, we're allowed to take note of that. If she says something stupid enough, she could wind up doing far more harm than good, to the cause; what is the cause, anyway? Pull out and run now? Thats really pretty stupid itself.

24. You don't know what difference I have made.
People around here hate when they see someone "bragging" about credentials, so I am not going to say what I have done, except that I have worked in politics, full time, professionally.

I am cheering this woman on, make no mistake. But its not armchair quarterbacking to simply discuss what she is doing. If she drags palestine into this, thats not wise; if she starts talking about being abducted by UFOs or MIHOP, it would be disastrous.

I think we should get out. But an immediate pullout would be disastrous.

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 03:15 PM by DistressedAmerican
Comparing discussing Palestine with UFO abduction is just stupid. She has embarrassed NO ONE.

Until We all know your name and work, what the hell makes you think you know better than Cindy?

Track record is track record.

Pulling out immediately will be less of a disaster than staying. It is a disaster either way. Just ask Cindy. She knows and she is changing things.

Who are the rest of your heroes, besides Boxer and Conyers? At least now we know that they are allowed to have an opinion.

Hero worship blinds the critical faculties. Thats why freepers are what they are, the cult of personality.

what everyone but you seem to realize. This lone woman has done more than anyone we have seen to end this war.

I suspect you have a tude about it because you do not believe in an immediate withdrawl.

You continue to have ZERO credibility.

You have made it clear that you do not share her goals. As such, why the hell should those of that do care what you have to say about her methods?

I gotta wonder...

29. For the love of god SHUT THE FUCK UP
I am sick sick sick of this "right to criticize" argument, sick to death of it. When somebody has national attention, you either support them or SHUT THE FUCK UP. If it's your local candidate, the same. If it's Paul Hackett, who DOES NOT SUPPORT WITHDRAWAL, focus on what you agree with and SHUT UP about the rest.

And YES, message boards DO MATTER.

35. ever been in a fire Pat?
we have an all volunteer force here- there comes a time when the chief says 'all personell OUT'- no matter who or what may remain inside, no matter how many firefighters may have been injured or killed trying to contain the fire-

the truly infuriating thing is, WE lit this fire intentionally-

And no amount of dead American, 'allied' or Iraqi troops are going to bring peace and stability to this region. Unless you want to make Iraq the 51st state, and that state a one where people will be constantly 'at risk' (like occupied areas of Palistine)- there IS no 'happy ending'.

Face it- reason without emotion is worth nothing, just as emotion without reason is nothing- Denying that we are ALL led, by MANY aspects of our 'thinking, feeling, mind' is lying to yourself- you cannot seperate your emotions from your actions- unless you are acting solely on instinct- and those actions are often ones we live to regret.

34. I think it's time for the tacticians and strategists among us
to step aside and let the soldiers in the front lines do their job.
Cindy is leading this charge very well, and the activists that are supporting her deserve nothing but praise.

So although I'm not going to tell people they can't put out any opinions they want, I have to agree with DistressedAmerican's general point which is that after this tremendous struggle to get ANY attention to the truth of this war, it is really beside the point to critique every word or move coming from those who are (literally) in the trenches. Unless somebody stumbles really badly I think it would be wise right now just to try to have more faith.
It's hard enough to do what they're doing--they don't need clouds and doubts from their own team.
Support the Troops, y'know?
