Do red counties have a LOWER average income than blue counties?
anyone got some stats on this? Judging by some stats I've been looking at it looks that way. It seems the only poor counties that vote Democratic are minority-heavy ones.

1. If you look at the states
most of the affluent states or states with higher literacy are blue states. I will look and see if I can find a country listing-I think someone posted one here a DU a few months ago.

3. It's the Demographics
Democrats always do best among people with the lowest level of education (high school or below) and the highest levels of education (doctorate and above). Republicans do better in the middle groups (college educated with no advanced degrees).

4. Not in NC but in general
Here, the blue counties tend to be poorer, but nationally that is far from the case. Look at NY and CA for some clear examples of poor counties being red and rich ones blue.

5. what I find the most ironic
is that the red states typically take in more federal dollars than they pay out in federal taxes...somewhere I saw a map which outlined that information. I'll look for it

7. Probably, because they tend to have less people
Compare the income level in a major city to some small rural area.
