Anderson Cooper: Aruba coverage is getting "ridiculous"
He just showed a lenghty montage of clips from the other networks and their coverage, in essence, showing nothing. He says that the news is now a young woman is missing and pledges that until that changes "we will leave the coverage to the other guys".

3. Please....
It was ridiculous a MONTH ago.

I liked Anderson Cooper on The Mole. Too bad he's just a corporate media hack now.

Anything to get you to watch.

Sorry CNN. I'm one of the 99.9% of Americans who do NOT watch your network.

5. Aruba coverage has jumped the shark!
Over the top coverage! Meanwhile a Gold Star Mom is being made to stand in a ditch and no 24/7 coverage for her! This Country is something else!

7. It's about damn time someone said that
This coverage of a caucasian, blonde girl missing in Aruba is getting old- but yet you hardly hear anything about Cindy Sheehan or any other missing people (particularly those who are NOT white).

Gotta love the MSM. :eyes:

11. And he spent valuable time on the Aruba story exposing the
Aruba story, but at least he did a good job on Cindy's story. I wish they would spend just a little time on Cheney and his obsession with nuking Iran. They need to have experts on who can show what a huge mistake that would be, etc. But I do appreciate the Cindy story; it was good.

12. Anderson Cooper is "ridiculous"...
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 06:32 PM by Flubadubya
for announcing on his website yesterday that he was going to cover the Sheehan story, and then copped out completely. At least do what you say you're going to do, Anderson!

ON EDIT: Ooops, didn't see post #11. He must have covered the story tonight. I guess "Andy" is "redeemed".

15. AND he's filling in, tonight, for Aaron Brown...
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 07:03 PM by Rhiannon12866
I was hoping for more coverage of Cindy Sheehan, unlike last night when they totally ignored it, but went overtime with coverage of the capture of that escaped inmate and his wife from Tennessee. It seemed to me as if they were playing this up, just to shut out other news, but maybe I've gotten paranoid.

However, here's the lineup... Nothing new, apparently still no Cindy Sheehan coverage scheduled. *sigh*:-(

NewsNight with Aaron Brown
Thursday, August 11, 2005

Good Evening,

Aaron is off and Anderson Cooper fills in.

We pick up where we left off last night with the story of
George and Jennifer Hyatte, the couple who escaped from a
Tennessee prison in a bloody gun battle and eluded police
until their capture last night in Columbus, Ohio. A
key player in this story was the cab driver who drove the
fugitive couple from northern Kentucky to Ohio. He joins
us tonight to tell us what the cab ride was like, when he
became suspicious, and how he helped police track them
down. We’ll also look at the sad life of Jennifer
Hyatte. How did she go from a happily married mother to
a fugitive murderer?

Also, seven years ago the community of Jonesboro, Arkansas
was stunned when 13-year-old Mitchell Jones opened fire on
his classmates, killing four students and a teacher. He
was released from prison today after only seven
years. There are lots of questions: Should he walk away
scot-free? Or was he just a kid who has learned his lesson
and deserves a second chance? Is he ready for society? Is
society ready for him, especially the people of Jonesboro?
We’ll get a report from Ed Lavandera in Jonesboro and talk
to Larry Salinger, a criminologist and sociologist from
Arkansas State University who has been following the case.

On to politics. Senate Majority Leader - and probable
presidential candidate - Bill Frist angered many religious
conservatives when he announced his support for more
federal funding of stem-cell research. So, is his
political strategy going to please everyone or leave him
out in the cold? We’ll take a look tonight.

Also, looking for a job? How about fighting terrorism? It’s
an new line of work that has created a whole new kind of
college program. When they talk about "bombing" that
course, they really mean it. We report from the
Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Jeff Greenfield reports on a controversial ad about Supreme
Court nominee John Roberts. It's been put out by NARAL
Pro-Choice America and its been angering the right, been
labeled unfair by neutral media watchdogs, and even upset
some on the left. Jeff does a fact-check.

Finally, there’s a magazine for everything, but Nissen
found one like no other. If you’ve misplaced a note, a
post-it, a flyer or even a doodle, Found Magazine may have
it.

Hope you’ll join us tonight at 10.

17. About Time someone in the media spoke up
COOPER: Well, in Aruba, not much happened in the 11th week of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, but you'd never know that if you listen to just about every other cable news channel.

We did a number of stories after the American teen went missing and her family's anguish is and hard to imagine and we understand why they want the story to remain in the news, but we've been kind of stunned, because every night, our cable competitors devote hours and hours to this story, even though, sadly, nothing new is happening. We decided to start tracking their coverage, because to be honest, it's getting downright ridiculous. Here's what the other guys were reporting just last night...

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BILL O'REILLY, FOX NEWS HOST: Not much new in the Natalee Holloway mystery.

RITA COSBY, MSNBC HOST: The big mystery, of course, is taking place on the island of Aruba.

DAN ABRAMS, MSNBC HOST: Let's go to Aruba. It's getting ugly. Natalee Holloway's mother is fighting back.
