Is that the only thing americans do, shop?

I just watched a news segment, in spite of a lack of hard cash, people are shopping more and more, something like 11% increase. Are people that damn stupid, they dont have the money yet all they do is buy buy buy more stuff stuff stuff, pathetic. We are a nation of debt, not just nationally, sooner or later those massive credit cards and interest rates are going to come back like the plague. Although I dislike the killing off of bankrupcy, I dont particularly think that people who have a fair amount of money, and then spend it ALL on crap, then borrow and spend more.. Im not so sure they deserve any 'easy' way out. Someone needs to start teaching economics and finance in school, its appauling how financially irresponsible both the government, and its people, have become.

shopping can be an addiction, and is, sadly, often a substitute for affection, connection, and even spirtual fulfillment. I've been there, done that, and don't care to shop any more. Other things are much more fulfilling.

Other than the basics, I don't have the money to shop! Must be the 'haves and have mores' bu$h's base that are doing all the shopping.

5. Daughter and I just got back from Target

She's in her 3rd year of college and we went back to school shopping. It seem each year we are buying less and less. This year was just standard toiletries, some food stuff, wash supplies, few notebooks/pencils/pencils, and two new outfits. We spent just under $200. She worked for 6 weeks this summer, while taking two courses at the local college, and paid for this herself.
