He seemed to defiantly do his anti-smoking gig again.

1. I don't know..that
was intense what I read on the link from buzzflash about rick kaplan and Keith..

>Snips<

"There's bad blood at MSNBC"

"It might be a good idea for Keith Olbermann and Rick Kaplan to give each other a wide berth until things cool down.
I hear that MSNBC staffers in the Secaucus newsroom-studio watched in horror Monday night as the volatile Kaplan, the president of the cable outlet, publicly laced into the eccentric Olbermann, anchor of the 8 p.m. show "Countdown," after the latter eulogized lung-cancer victim Peter Jennings with a graphic rant about his own cancer scare.

Olbermann - a former pipe and cigar smoker - is said to have looked stunned as Kaplan raced onto the set and shouted at him after he signed off.

Olbermann had urged viewers to quit smoking and repeatedly mentioned "spitting blood" and "spitting globs of myself into a garbage can" while discussing his bout with a benign tumor in in his mouth."

2. One good question
If this story is really true, how come MSBC's Web site is helping Keith plug his antismoking campaign as he's running it on the show?

Just asking. Not that I don't believe there's some truth to this, but did they change their attitude after they saw what kind of positive response he got?

4. MSNBC sent out a press release about it too.

Methinks all of the positive viewer mail has had an impact.

5. I think there is something to it for sure
This morning Imus and his crew were offering up a revised explanation of why Kaplan had been so upset. Imus is a Kaplan buddy and I think if the story wasn't true, they would have been denouncing it as bunk. But that's not what was going on at all, instead they were trying to think up excuses as to why Kaplan reacted as he did. I just think that the press release and Keith's continued coverage of the anti-smoking angle is probably more of an indication that he's got support higher up in the NBC News chain and that Kaplan may have well been overruled on this one, esp. after all the positive feedback that Keith got on this.

7. Yeah, between the support on the Web site and the news release
you have to wonder whether Kaplan didn't overplay his hand this time, if all this really did happen as is reported.

Imus is such a jerk. He's always trying to find new ways to knock Keith.

Another curious thing I've noticed...for the past few nights, Philip Morris has been running its "How to get kids not to smoke" commercials during Countdown. Granted, I hate those ads because I think they're so two-faced...we know they only are doing them because they are forced to, and the precise way they make them guarantees that kids will want to smoke because it puts adults in the position of telling kids not to do it (and anything adults tell kids not to do is almost guaranteed to be something they will then want to do). But it's interesting that I don't recall ever having seen them run these ads on Countdown before, and now suddenly there is one every night.
