Fire ant treatments:
Bleach 1:1 with water

But...that is pretty much the initial treatment.

Now don't laugh...but Preparation-H works afterward. It takes away the itching and swelling....just like it does in....other places.:)

Does that really work? As a diver I have been stung by small jellyfish and was told that was the treatment but I never tried it. We used Gin instead.

9. Ammonia. I highly recommend ammonia.

I hike and camp a lot, and I always carry ammonia. You can buy it in a pen dauber called "After Bite (The Itch Eraser)" or you can just put household ammonia in a small bottle with an eye-dropper.

It works *quick* to take away the sting. You have to re-apply as needed.

10. One thing about ants is to identify the mounds. Then stay

away from them. There is a plethora of treatments if you do get bitten like calamine lotion, Benedryl, alcohol and Betadine, but an ounce of prevention is much better. I found most deet based insect repellants not only work for the mosquitos but on the ants as well.

I have had success with anything that has Tea Tree oil in running off ticks. I don't know if it works on ants because I deal with ants a different way around my house, but I think showering and shampooing with a Tea Tree oil based soap and shampoo has a smell bugs don't like. Good luck.

11. FIRE ANTS MUST DIE!!!!!!

Seriously, you can get a pen-like insect bite treatment at most drugstores that you just dab onto the bite. It smells like it might be ammonia, but I am not certain.

It works too.

Fire Ant bites are just nasty. When they head up you just have to drain them, any way you can.

all of the mentioned treatments are effective, in one way or another.

12. Benadryl pills, bring band-aids because the welts start to pus...

In Houston I reached into a flower pot and felt a burning sensation. Pulled my hands out and they were covered with fire ants. 20+ bites. I turned red over my entire body.

The bites became these gross gross pustules...it took several weeks for them to go away.

Don't get bitten! Wear rubber garden boots out there, and watch what you touch and pick up.
