Why don't (some) intelligent people vote?

I know there are some people who just don't care - the only current event they know about is who's left on American Idol. Those people are a given.

What I don't get is people who don't like Bush but who won't vote for the alternative. Perhaps Kerry wasn't their first choice, but he's better than Bush any day of the week.

I think they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

It's one night out of a persons life and its so important. The only reason that I can come up with is that they feel that thier vote wont be counted or they cant take time off from work.

1. I have had more than one intelligent non-voter tell me they don't

vote because they believe that opens up the door for all kinds of things for you to be called on to do - like serving jury duty. Stupid, I know, but they really believe this bullshit.

I think serving on a jury is a small price to pay for living in a democracy - but you can get out of it.

The wrong man in charge does a lot of damage.

There is this whole "life is good" crowd that kinda feels that life is good in America. They don't think that there is much difference between Dems and GOP, and no matter who wins, their life is good.

Why get involved?

That is why some smart people, people of conviction, don't vote.
