Can someone explain this CIA story? I am totally lost.

I have no idea what this Karl Rove/Bob Novak/Wilson story is? What is Pat Buchanan's role?

I have no idea what the hell is going on. Can someone fill me in?

1. The short version

In July, Amb. Wilson told the NYT that the yellowcake uranium story was bogus and that he'd told the White House it was bogus. A few days later, Robert Novak outted Wilson's wife as a CIA agent (who, coincidently, was doing important WMD work).

Last Friday, the CIA called for an investigation of the outting. Saturday, a "top administration official" said that two "White House officials" had outted Wilson's wife (Plame) to six reporters, including Novak. This TAO said it was done for revenge and to keep other people from speaking out. Yesterday, Schumer called for an special prosecutor.

Novak will be on Crossfire in a few minutes discussing the whole thing.

Novak blew her cover and exposed her and therefore corrupted her network. These are most likely irreplaceable assets in the important hunt tracking rogue WMD's.

Someone found a tape of Wilson saying he thought Rove was involved in the outting. Buchanan has nothing to do with it that I know of.

4. The major thing is that Novak printed Wilson's wife's NAME.

I believe it is illegal to out a CIA operative. Had Novak said Wilson's wife is CIA, that's one thing. To print her name is the major problem.

into the leak.

PS: An investigation to identify and possibly prosecute the one or two members of the WH staff who leaked the identity of a CIA undercover agent, i.e., Wilson's wife.

Has Rove's name and position been mentioned on TV? What is his position exactly anyway?

12. Yes. Wilson named him last summer as his prime suspect.

People are buzzing about Rove as a likely source. But today, Wilson made it clearer that he doesn't know who the source is, though he suspects that whoever it is must have acted with Rove's knowledge.

Rove is called Senior Adviser.
