Do I smell Revolution?
We may, and I use the word MAY, for a reason, be at the threshold of what we have been working for. Lets summarize the events of this summer, which is far from over but has been rather hot.

1.- California (as I was reminded) the nurses and police officer, yep them special interest groups, and teachers... basically stood to Arnie. In the end we all know Arnie had to relent... partially. It ain't over, but he seems to be at retreat.

2.- the Peace movement is slowly coalescing into a force... the events of the last few days at Camp Casey point to the center of a movement which effectively is making Bush and company look like the cowards they are. It still could get ugly and for god sakes I hope it does not (beyond the fire ants)

3.- Bush's poll numbers are clearly on free fall.

4.- today truck drivers actually held a Freeway in Florida... protesting fuel prices. Locally my news had yet more truck drivers considering basically not running, for it is cheaper not to haul loads. (For the record Bush boy did tell the companies today that they are at the point where they need to stem their greed.... for it may affect the economy you know. (And this is from the official department of DUH!

So read these major trends... and what you can see is a people that are now doing something. It sill is does it affect me? But the proles are stirring. I can already see the most likely nightmare in DC, and the Hamptoms and anywhere the elites gather... what happens when the nurses, the truck drivers, the teachers and the peace nicks realize they are fighting the same evil? That is the real nightmare, for divided they will be conquered.

One more thing, the enemy of the Bush Administration is US the people, remember that.

Now roll them sleeves up, for the fight needs to continue now more than ever.

Oh and do remember, most Revolutions in the US have been peaceful and we are well overdue for one

48. And "Home made" CORDITE smells better and lasts longer!
That canned stuff from the Company Store is OK,
but once you smell the real thing
there's no going back!

QUOTE:
"FREEDOM is...
Well, it's just "one of those things".
Those "things" which are oft-referenced, but seldom encountered...

FREEDOM: Once you SEE it,
(even if only from the corner of your eye, at a great distance...)
You can't ever _NOT_ see it again.

And you won't be content
until you can see it EVERYWHERE,
all your waking hours."

16. Actually if you ask people
most are just finding out that bush lied us to war. Most people are not political junkies, Heck up to 2002 I was one of the many watching teevee news. My waking moment was sending a husband to war... I have found myself incapable of watching news and... I have become more and more radicalized. Most Americans are just waking in America finding out they were lied to.

Think of the phases of death, we are beyond those, but most Americans are just going through that. I suspect, if I am reading this right, that social forces are about to coalesce into a perfect storm. We have had many of these in the past... where it looked like we were going there... that is why I used the qualifier MAY.

Now roll up the sleeves and back to work

because many of them are non-union, just the way you-know-who likes it. Now think for a minute if the non-union, independent truckers are getting stinky about this, what will happen when the Teamsters call a slow-dow or shutdown.

PULL 'em over and PARK e'm boys!!!

French truckers have been very effective in getting their demands met when the pullled over, parked and blocked things up in the past. It is a common working man's tactic there.

Stick together.

Oh by the way, I saw a Union notice to boycott Wal-mart for back to school supplies. Carry on working people.

20. I won't say it won't
I'd say it MAY... use the qualifier

Every situation reaches a tipping point and if it does this time, the misery index is quite high... it has not yet, because people are not hungry or cold enough... revolutions, especially the violent kind, need a high misery index... the French Revolution was in the high 90s, just as the Russian revolution, the American revolution (truly a war of independence led by elites, as much as I love the ideals), was in the high 80s, low 90s.

Riots begging at the 70% mark and we may be over the 70% mark. Problem is, the data from the feds needed to calculate it is no longer released or severely massaged. So if we are reaching that point well here are some things we can comment, unemployment and under employment are far higher than any official number reflects (the truckers are a good example of under employment), and people are starting to have trouble feeding themselves and keeping a roof over their heads... if this is the case, we are in for a very interesting time.

32. that has nothing to do with activism
for the record, I think far more are going Indie or third party than you suspect, but this has nothing to do with a revolution... in fact the few times we have come close major, almost cataclysmic events have happened

1800, the WHigs started their decline (Adams was voted out, Alien and Sedition Act of 1797)

1852 the GOP is formed, 1850s, Kansas, the Whigs go away, and to everybody's shock the GOP takes the WH in 1860

1880, Land and Freedom party and a couple others start running candidates when the parties (both of them) ignored the working man. It took 20 years for the Democrats to take upon their agenda and basically to make a long story short, can you say New Deal?

What we are seeing right now is the emergence of forces OUTSIDE the two major parities, reminding me more and more of the 1880s. We may see the death of the GOP, once folks realize just how bought and paid for they are (whigs), we may see the death of the Democratic Party, to be replaced by another Progressive party... we may see the Democrats taken from the inside (like the Radicals did to Ike's party)... what is sure is that we are at a fork in US History... and unless how we vote (no, not the machines the actual system, can you say Proportional representation?) we are stuck with a duopoly, for the dream of the founding fathers of NO Factions is just that, a dream.

Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 10:54 PM by RoyGBiv
That's not addressing the question. You're irritated at the Democrats. Okayfine. I'm irritated at some Democrats myself.

But how does the "nothing will happen" attitude help anything, and does your lack of party affiliation also indicate your lack of activism to try to force change?

I don't mean to pick, but I've seen this sort of thing expressed in various threads over time and increasingly, for some bizarre reason, lately, particularly with regard to what's happening in Crawford. One person commented that Sheehan was grandstanding, another that going there to support her was pointless, another that this "little" protest was distracting.

People said the same thing about Martin Luther King's "little" protests, particularly about a "pointless" little march in Selma.

The point is that positive change takes time, effort, and sacrifice, and along the way you will suffer disappointments, some of them extreme. The only sure sign of the success of oppressors is when they instill in the people an attitude that dissuades them from involvement, from recognizing the signs that opportunities exist and acting on it.

23. There is a reason they have been peaceful
Democracy is that reason. It forces politicians to ultimately bow to the popular will. Now, if democracy is subverted, that ultimate check on power is undermined, and the only way of forcing a power to bow to the peopel will be a bloody revolution. I hope that we can still do it peacefully, as is our way. But, with the subversion of democracy that has gone on under this administration, that mechanism may no longer be working properly as intended. In any event, bringing this to heel must be done, one way or the other.

that said, this is the time for many people who are activists to ask this question of themselves... are you willing to make the ultimate sacrifice?

I know my answer to this, a resounding yes. I want my nephews to grow safe secure and free. But people need to ask this question, because the time of sorrow is coming

Oh and for the record, even though I am a game designer by trade, I have no illusions of what this means... it is a nasty, rotten, little business... but the tree of liberty may need watering from time to time

39. Like nag champa from afar :)
I smell it and I feel it. The only way to tilt the political weight back to the center is to have a counter-weight.

Unfortunately, as we've witnessed far too much, the other side gets pretty damned nasty when we show our collective weight, and they get especially nasty when we speak the truth, out of fear that their followers will no longer follow. They don't mind collectivism, as long as their followers are comprised of people who think and act exactly as they do. It's all part of the marketing strategy...the "you're either with us or against us" phrase comes to mind.

We've already forced people to ask questions and raise eyebrows...let's keep them interested in what we have to say.

I cringe when I hear liberals attack other liberals. Jeez, we don't have to agree on everything, but we should at the very least respect the right to disagree, and realize that we are all working for similar goals. Sure, our individual priorities might differ, but we can't, I repeat, CAN'T afford to lose sight of our mutual purpose- we need to seriously turn the tides in this nation, because the freakin' ship is gonna' sink if we don't.

Jeez, that sounded preachy. Sorry, but I mean it.

Let's get busy.

Men who are greedy. Men who are fearful and cowardly. Men who are not invincible. Men who can be confronted, removed from power and brought to justice.

Men can be beaten, if only enough people unite to stop them.
