Lincoln met with mothers during the Civl War
and in his anguish he was able to express to them his feelings that this was a noble cause. So the precedent is clearly there. Why can't bush do the same if he truly feels this is a just action on the part of his administration?

1. Indeed. It was that sentiment that led to Mothers Day in 1870.
Julia Ward Howe wrote the original Mother's Day Proclamation in 1870, as a call for peace and disarmament. Excerpt:

From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: "Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe our dishonor,
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace...

5. No Lincoln? He's no Nixon!
He isn't even a Taft, Harding, or Hoover.

7. Those who died in the Civil War didn't die for lies.
So, Lincoln could help alleviate their grief.

What can the Chimperor do? The smart families who have lost someone will ask tough questions. The Chimp doesn't like to be questioned.
