1. Not a peep from any politician left or right.
First one to speak up will have their career ended by rove and hughes.

8. The notion these skyrocketing prices are a Bush Administration plan...
to ramp up support for a wider Middle East war are foolish (but understandable) paranoia. A wider Middle East war would require such dramatic expansion of U.S. armed forces as could only by accomplished by a draft. But a draft would create a genuine people's army and thereby totally nullify the oligarchy's plan to use its present-day professional army -- Iraq-trained in urban combat and thereby given the necessarily no-prisoners mindset -- for suppressing the dissent that will inevitably accompany the ongoing total collapse of the U.S. economy. These oil prices are motivated by plutocratic greed and nothing more: like outsourcing and downsizing, the extraction of maximum capital from the U.S. economy before it implodes -- exactly analogous to a vampire sucking a victim dry before before the vampire casts off the withered corpse.

13. Unless I misunderstood...
the notion of hiking oil prices to inflame the U.S. citizenry into demanding conquest of the entire Middle East is the alleged Bush purpose implicit in post #2.

10. there are quite a few worries about that contingency as well
Curiously, there's not much discussion of what the "vampire" does after discarding the withered corpse.

12. Nor is there much speculation about what the corpse might do...
should it experience resurrection via proletarian solidarity and revolutionary determination...

14. I've had similar thoughts
But I'm thinking, not so much that they're sucking everything out before the economy collapses, but that they're sucking everything out before this administration collapses. This sudden and obvious gouging (gas up 16 cents in one day here) seems almost like they see the writing on the wall and are hurrying to profit as much as possible as fast as possible.

15. Greed -- obscene greed -- rationalized as fear the oil infrastructure...
might be severely damaged, whether by the very Jihadist terrorism the Bush Administration is agitating in the Middle East (and everywhere else), or by the defensive reaction the administration is trying to provoke from Venezuela.
