women's groups. Tonight on DemocracyNow! they were discussing women in Iraq and mentioned that "there is however a very powerful women's rights movement in Iraq that is fighting very aggressively to stem" the tide towards an Islamic-law republic.
So much angers me that Bush is doing, but it is particularly irksome that Bushco COULD do something about this, by funding and empowering these groups in the same way that they do when they pick out particular political factions which they support. Of course, overt support would be counterproductive, but they have plenty of covert means of giving support. Instead they will give it lip service, and trade away the rights of 50% in order to use it as a bargaining chip.
Wasting life is the original sin, and there are many dimensions to that including suppressing the feminine half of an entire country. Damn it.
