You never know when you'll meet another good Democrat.
I got my oil changed at one of those jiffy lube places this afternoon, and found out that I needed a new belt, but they couldn't do it there because my motor mount had to be removed to get to the belt. So I went to a major department store's service center to get the belt changed and the hoses checked.

While my car was being worked on, I was watching the TV in the little waiting room, alone (no one else was in there), when the clerk in the automotive department (an African American woman) walked by. The tv was on CNN and was showing Bush at Crawford and Cindy. The lady stopped a second to listen to the TV, and she started cursing Bush under her breath. I kid you not. Cursing him! "That shit makes me furious. I hate that asshole." (She probably sensed that I agree with her because of my two anti-Bush bumperstickers. She was the one who had gone out to my car to get the info they have to have before they service it.)

So I said, "May I tell you that I'm a Democrat and I agree with you?" and she said, "I'm a Democrat, too. I've got family members and friends in Iraq right now, and I hate that bastard."

We talked about the war and the veterans that we knew...she sat down in the waiting room and we talked for a good 20 minutes. I asked her if she knew about Cindy Sheehan, and she DID! She replied, "That soldier's mother protesting at Bush's ranch?" I told her that the reason I was getting my hoses and belts serviced was because I am going to Crawford, and all I care to do while I am there is hug Cindy's neck. She said, "God bless ya. I'm going to be praying for your safety." We had such a nice talk--I was floating on clouds when I left.

Did I mention that I live in Mississippi? :-)

1. So true. You never know! And you can't tell a liberal on sight any more
than you can tell a RWer. (Sure you can make an educated guess on a lot of them.. but not all. Definitely been surprised and humbled for thinking someone was a RWer by how they looked.)

4. I live in Mississippi also..
Every so often I have an encounter like yours and I briefly begin to have a little bit of hope, but then I turn on the news and well, you live hear you know, rude awakening we are in a fairly red state.

However I have a few friends here that are democrats, and I am actually able to hold an intelligent conversation with them.

5. I live in Florida
And last week I was in Cleveland to take care of a mess. I was sitting in the hotel bar about 11:00pm, and the kid on the stool next to me started talking. He couldn't make his connection to Chicago because their airport was shut down due to weather.

Turns out he was in my county a few weeks ago working on a house for Habitat for Humanity, works for the Governor of Illinois, and is heading down to Maryland to work on a campaign next year.
