Hate America?
Where do these idiots get this idea? They fling it off the cuff as if it means something. "Liberals hate America."

Uh...no.

We hate some of the shortsighted, wrongheaded, callous strategies the Right (Wrong) Wing espouses, the ones that leave thousands of American soldiers dead or maimed, tens of thousands of innnocent people dead or wounded, and returning vets without proper care because their benefits have been sliced to ribbons.

We hate the policies that pretend to consider education important, while underfunding any program that actually promotes educational opportunities.

We hate the policies that refuse to allow a living wage to American workers, yet subsidize what amounts to slave labor in other parts of the world.

We hate the fact that the media goes along with all the lies and disinformation this administration spews like vomit after sixteen straight shots of rotgut whiskey.

We hate that, despite having some of the best medical technology in the world, many Americans are one critical injury or illness away from abject poverty...or a lifetime of debt.

We hate the fact that some people use a religion that was originally meant to be all-encompassing (remember the compassion of Jesus Christ and compare it to the lack of compassion in those who claim to follow Him) to slander and spit upon people who don't see things the same way.

We hate that some people think it's better to be polluters than the kind of people who want to STOP pollution. We hate the fact that some people think it's better to be the folks throwing mercury into the water, or noxious filth into the air, than the kind of "treehuggers" who want to stop this sort of stuff.

No, we don't hate America. We just hate the sort of Americans that make us regret sharing a country with them, who do things in OUR name that we're not proud of, and say things that make us want to scream in absolute disdain "WE DIDN'T AGREE TO THIS!"

We LOVE what America could have been--the ideal that evil, selfish people have stolen away...we love the REAL America, not this changeling child those people have tried to put in its place.

Talk about the ultimate bait and switch.

13. The Sun God - King Louis of France admired by King Ludwig II...
of Bavaria. Ludwig built extravagant castles, which helped drive the Bavarian government into insolvency. One castle, the Schlossherrenchiemsee , never completed , patterned after the Palace in Versailles, is situated on , the Chiemsee,Germany's largest lake.Ludwig, often dependent found face down in the Starnbergersee in Bavaria. Some believe he was killed, then thrown into the lake to make it appear as if had drowned.

3. The term "Liberal " has lost it's meaning
The real issue that you are addressing in some part is that fact that most people have no idea what teh two politacal labels of Conservitive and Liberal mean anymore. The use of the two trems to rip abart confliting cultural ideoligies has lessened the meaning of both and created really nothing more than slang terms for thoses we don't agree with.

Liberal is defined as:

Main Entry: 1lib·er·al
Pronunciation: 'li-b(&-)r&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin liberalis suitable for a freeman, generous, from liber free; perhaps akin to Old English lEodan to grow, Greek eleutheros free
1 a : of, relating to, or based on the liberal arts <liberal education> b archaic : of or befitting a man of free birth
2 a : marked by generosity : OPENHANDED <a liberal giver> b : given or provided in a generous and openhanded way <a liberal meal> c : AMPLE, FULL
3 obsolete : lacking moral restraint : LICENTIOUS
4 : not literal or strict : LOOSE <a liberal translation>
5 : BROAD-MINDED; especially : not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms
6 a : of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism b capitalized : of or constituting a political party advocating or associated with the principles of political liberalism; especially : of or constituting a political party in the United Kingdom associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom, greater individual participation in government, and constitutional, political, and administrative reforms designed to secure these objectives

While conservitive is as follows :

Main Entry: 1con·ser·va·tive
Pronunciation: k&n-'s&r-v&-tiv
Function: adjective
1 : PRESERVATIVE
2 a : of or relating to a philosophy of conservatism b capitalized : of or constituting a political party professing the principles of conservatism : as (1) : of or constituting a party of the United Kingdom advocating support of established institutions (2) : PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE
3 a : tending or disposed to maintain existing views, conditions, or institutions : TRADITIONAL b : marked by moderation or caution <a conservative estimate> c : marked by or relating to traditional norms of taste, elegance, style, or manners <a conservative suit>
4 : of or relating to Conservative Judaism
- con·ser·va·tive·ly adverb
- con·ser·va·tive·ness noun

when contrasted it's easy to see how yet, under this age on neo-fasisiam people see change as the enemy and belive that those who embrace it are against all they know. Conservitism is a form of fear. Fear of change and fear of losing control. Most people love thier cell phones , PDA, and laptop super computers yet they somehow don't want these advances to chage there lives. Progressives however are looking for change and how to apply it.

16. That's why I'm a Progressive.
Lakoff said we may never reclaim "liberal" for its true meaning - and if we do, we're in for a 30-year battle. Believe me, I have more important priorties for the next 30 years than reclaiming a word.

10. Turn this thing around. Fact: Bush is ruining America.
Only someone who hates America would purposely attempt to destroy it.

Thus, those who support Bush hate America.

This should be stressed.

We are pro-life, not the other guys.

Anyone who is as trigger-happy as Bush is not Pro-Life.

Etc.

14. If they are stupid enough
to vote for and support Commander Cuckoo Bananas and the 43rd Reich, how do you expect them to understand that Dumbya is not America, and that our rage at Bu$h and his whores, is because of our love for America.

But clearly they are not thinking they are just scared little minds hiding in fear because that freaking idiot told them to be scared.

18. Two different Americas
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 12:10 PM by delen
The neo- cons believe they are bringing America back to its "rightful" place at the top of the food chain (post ww2), America and its interests come first rest of the be damned they only exist to serve Americas interests. Which is why its OK (according to them) to use our armed forces as security or distraction while Halliburton "secures" Iraq's and possibly Iran's oil for America.
Progressives see America as part of, but at the top of a larger world community, one were we try to divide up our resources in a more equal manner, and all humans are truly born equal or at least we try to work towards that goal.

19. I like the old HL Menken quote:

"The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair."

20. REAL Americans Question Politicians!
Where do they get off telling us we hate America because we can't stand their idiotic politicians and their stupid policies! For crying out loud, if we hated America, why the hell would we care so much what goes on with it?

I guess it's ok to hate Democratic politicians....you can still love America and do this, it's just when you oppose Republican policy that you suddenly "hate" America.

I ask them if they hated America when Clinton was president and they deplored him and his policies. That usually shuts them up.
