Police Arrest Protesters Blocking Construction Of Adult Bookstore
http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=3716510&nav=0RZEdHYN

(UNIONTOWN, Ind.) -- Residents in one southern Indiana town are outraged over an adult business now under construction. Critics say it will bring more problems to an area not far from where 10-year-old Katie Collman was molested and murdered earlier this year. Protesters gathered at the construction site of the store Friday, and as WAVE 3's Jeff Tang reports, police arrested several emotional demonstrators.

Joyce Gillaspy knows she's breaking the law. "We're blocking workers from coming in and doing any more construction on it.

She and other parents and grandparents are refusing to let an adult bookstore be built in the same place their children grow up.

"We're literally drawing sexual predators into our community where our children are," said protester Laura Wheeler.

Ah...ignorance still exists in droves.

I don't want to hear a single one of them ever bitching about an anti-war protester. EVER.

1. wait a minute........
didn't you know you can control the universe? Ya, that's the ticket...we keep out any literature we don't agree with and all the BADDDDD people will go elsewhere. My kids will never go on the internet either, and get home schooled, and never watch tv, go to church, have perfect teeth, and get good grades, and, and, and, and then grow up to be a mass murderer anyway. Who do they think they are kidding, they hate us for our freedoms.

2. I have a god-given right to porn....
how dare they stop the erection of an adult bookstore....if I had my way, there would be one every mile or two....These bookstores create jobs! Jobs for women who can do ATM and DP....jobs for video companies.....jobs for publishers...jobs for photographers. We need more adult businesses. They could save our economy! We could put every women in this country to work doing what they do best....! Hey, why not start a franchise? Something like Wendy's? Or 7-11? We could incorporate! No liability!

5. NO! Women should only be allowed to work in approved industries
Can't have a woman living her life like she wants to. Especially if other people find it distasteful.

10. she should be able to work in all industries....
but she would probably pick the industry that pays the most.....and what if she doesn't have the job skills to be an engineer, a lawyer, or a doctor...what career CHOICE would she make in the land of the free and home of the brave?

Money for job training and education has been slashed....so what is left in this 'service economy?' Waiting tables? Retail clerk? Maid? Janitor? Cab Driver? Fast Food? Become one of the working poor with no health benefits!

Oh yes, there's the other option of the Military.....whose motto should be: 'I'd Kill for an Education.'

No, women can sell their bodies....the money is great! No education or experience required! "It's my CHOICE!" I think it is about the only choice ya got these days....

I just love the smell of patriarchy in the morning....and it tastes good too!

No, in fact SOOO many women are getting into porn that there is a shortage of maids and Waitress.

Give me a break. More women are graduating college than men these days. Yes, it's hard out there. I would support free college education for ALL. It would be a great way for people to rise up to their abilities, regardless of economic background.

This women are victims/forced into porn because of economics meme is getting tiresome. Certainly not all poor women sell their bodies. The ones who do - do so out of CHOICE - which you do not seem to support or understand.

But of course, everyone should just behave how the anti-sex authoritarians tell them to, right?

14. smart women making less $ than dumb men...
follow the money....women are smart and graduating at astronomical levels from colleges....but then a funny thing happens when these hot babes hit the 'real world,' they make less money than the boys. And are treated less than respectfully. Been there, done that.

I busted a number of balls like a good little girl....but still ain't making the $ that the dumb boys do....

Go sell your first born....it's no hair off my pretty ass.

I made tons of money selling pictures of where all life came from....it's the black hole.

Gee, it's sooooo cool that there is a shortage of waitresses and maids....thanks for not taking one of my three jobs....

Read any Dworkin?

Here's a good job......male rib removal.

Cindy Sheehan is taking a stand for her beliefs (which I share -- 100%).

So now these people take a stand for their beliefs and they want to control "how you live your life, where you go, and how you act"?

But on the other hand, (that would be the third hand) a group of people protest the building of a Walmart in their town (thereby taking a stand for their beliefs) and they get applauded? (And, yes, I would applaud them. I personally will not shop Walmart.)

I sense a philosophical disconnect here.

As Noam Chomsky so succinctly put it:

"If we don't believe in freedom of expression for
people we despise, we don't believe in it at all."
-Noam Chomsky

13. There's a difference between taking a stand for your beliefs
and forcing your beliefs on other people.
