6 People Flying to Crawford on Sunday
from our town. A meeting on Thursday, more discussion on Friday, and six folks have decided to fly to Crawford and stand in solidarity with Cindy. For those of us who are staying here and are involved on the periphery we plan to vigil in the street each day in support. It is also necessary to continue to inform people what exactly is going on in Iraq as well as in Crawford. This spontaneous action by Cindy has the potential to be a flashpoint. She has become somewhat of an archtype and of course an illustration in courage. Hopefully this is just the beginning. We must do all we can to stop these madmen.

Any thoughts about preparations.

All going are seasoned activists and deeply involved in anti-war movement. Some are from Catholic Worker group in this area. I think 1, possibly 2 have been to Iraq in the last year. Very dedicated people. We'll have a send off on Sunday.

Some of us here have pledged to be out on the streets each day until our feckless leader talks with Cindy, no breath being held.

4. That's Great! It's hot and humid, as you probably know
Lived there when I was growing up--

bring the usual:

Sunscreen
Bug spray
water
hats
calamine lotion or witch hazel

From the looks of some of the pics I've seen, some of the folks are getting fried by the sun/heat.

Good luck to all of you!

8. Friends from the Ithaca area
I won't be going myself, I'm just organizing actions here at home. With two tiny children I must stay near, though I shall go to DC. Starting today, along with friends I shall hold signs and leaflet every day Cindy is in Crawford. Even in our "progressive" town too many aren't fully aware of what is happening.

Lets ring the bell.

7. How long will they be able to stay in Crawford?
bring an umbrella, a large-brimmed hat, sunglasses, socks and comfortable shoes, and sunblock. I know the socks and shoes part doesn't make sense, but there are fire ants out there, and if you wear sandals, you will just get eaten up. No fun at all, believe me! Also, the umbrella provides shade, in case there isn't any to find. You also might bring some of those fold-up chairs, so you have a place to sit. You might think about shipping a large igloo cooler to store ice and drinks as well, while you are sitting waiting for Shrub to appear!

Thanks for the advice. Just found out a couple more are driving down.

Dear Friends and Supporters,

George Bush said speaking about the dreadful loss of life in Iraq in August: (08/03/05): "We have to honor the sacrifices of the fallen by completing the mission." "The families of the fallen can be assured that they died for a noble cause."

In reaction to these two asinine and hurtful statements, members of Gold Star Families for Peace (GSFP) are going to George's vacation home in Crawford, Tx this Saturday, August 6th at 11:00 am to confront him on these two statements.

1) We want our loved ones sacrifices to be honored by bringing our nation's sons and daughters home from the travesty that is Iraq IMMEDIATELY, since this war is based on horrendous lies and deceptions. Just because our children are dead, why would we want any more families to suffer the same pain and devastation that we are.

2) We would like for him to explain this "noble cause" to us and ask him why Jenna and Barbara are not in harm's way, if the cause is so noble.

3) If George is not ready to send the twins, then he should bring our troops home immediately. We will demand a speedy withdrawal.

GSFP will be joined by members of Veteran's for Peace (VFP), Military Families Speak Out (MFSO), Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW), Code Pink, and Crawford Peace House.

We GSFP members will not leave until we get answers from George Bush. We deserve and expect him to welcome us with answers to as why our loved ones are dead.

Every worker for peace, every worker for justice, every person who wants our country back are welcomed to join us on Saturday. Show George Bush that we mean business. Be there to support us family members who have already been through so much. We are fighting for our country, our world, especially the children.

Crawford is about 2 hours from Dallas where the VFP Convention is being held this weekend. There will be car pools from the convention.

HONOR OUR LOVED ONE'S SACRIFICES: BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW!!!!

Bring water and hats...we plan on staying until we are arrested or satisfied with the answers. (I am betting on jail).

Please pass this email on to your friends, lists, and media.
