5. This is a very serious subject
regardless of what Bush and the media are telling us, the price of gas is choking off our economy. Truckers are being pushed towards bankruptcy. The truckers are raising their prices, so the cost of goods is going up, so we are getting a "double whammy" from the increase in fuel costs. Why don't Bush and Cheney call all their oil friends into the oval office and demand that they produce oil at a reasonable price? I'm sure the Texas oil companies are charging $66 per barrel too. Oh wait, I forgot that Bush is abetting corporate America's huge money grab. Who cares if the rest of us get screwed?

10. Unfortunately, complete, nationwide strikes or shutdowns wont happen
because the majority of drivers in this country are "Company" drivers, that is to say, they don't pay for their fuel, their company does and in most cases the companies are getting volume discounts anyway. The number of Owner/Operators is not sufficient to really affect the overall economy to any great degree. Since the number of drivers in this country represented by Labor Unions has diminished so much over the last 25 years, you can't expect the Unions to do much about it either.

11. No doubt about it, the truckers are getting fed up
The Florida protest is just the first. They are really getting pissed off. This is the worst thing that can happen to them.

13. They won't be able to keep up payments if they dont drive, thats why
these trucker strikes have always failed in the past.

They have food to put on the table, and an idle truck is money lost down a rathole, while the bills still pile up.

Get ready for steady price increases on just about everything you buy, folks.

15. That's why they're going to have protests. They'll block traffic...
they'll block bridges, they'll block highways. There's going to be lots of unrest in the trucking industry in the very near future.

16. No, they will be arrested, thier trucks impounded and they will be
billed for all cost associated with the expenses. This all happened once before in 1979-80 and the police/courts will counter any stikes involving blocking roads with arrests and impoundments.

With trucking deregulated and the unions at an all time low, there will be no nationwide trucker shutdown, I can assure you of that.

20. Nobody said it would be nationwide, but there will be protests by truckers
they'll slow down and cause traffic jams. It doesn't have to be nationwide either. Nobody is going to be arrested. The truckers are pissed off, and they're about to start letting everybody know it. They can't go on working for pennies. They are getting socked more than any other industry/entrepreneurs.

14. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings
but no matter what happens today, tomorrow, or next week, if gas is $1, $2, $3, or $5 a gallon... The signs are very strong that we are reaching the peak of oil production, which means it will start to decline. More demand, less supply. And it's a finite resource, which means sooner or later, Oil is going to run out.

Perhaps while people are getting pissed about what the price of gas is this week, they should also consider that it's about half past time to give a shit regarding developing renewable sources of environmentally friendly energy.

Abe Mwaura of Huntington and his brother, Jesse, spent a day in December 2004 converting his diesel engine to run on vegetable oil by installing $300 worth of equipment that includes a filter, a fuel selector and tank for the vegetable oil.

The conversion has meant significant savings for Mwaura, upwards to $1,500 a year in fuel costs. Mwaura gets his vegetable oil free from restaurants and only buys diesel fuel every 3,500 to 5,000 miles. The car uses diesel only to start the engine, Mwaura said.

Mwaura said he faced many skeptics when he set out to convert his car. He bought his diesel engine car in 2004 knowing he wanted to convert it to run on veggie oil, he said. Only diesel engines can be converted to run on vegetable oil. Many mechanics at his dealership said it wasn’t possible, he said. Mwaura worked from blueprints he found on how to make the conversion and now relishes the memory of when he pulled his car into his dealership for the first time as the motor chugged vegetable oil instead of crude. The french fry odor the vegetable oil exhaust makes caused astonishment among many, Mwaura said.

"There is nothing I changed except just the fuel supply," Mwaura said.

21. High Prices could be a way for corporate trucking to squeeze out the
independent truckers. Wouldn't surprise me if corporate truckers got a sweetheart gas deal while leaving the small independents to sink or swim.

22. Gas prices
I have no doubt that we are close or at Peak Oil. Nevertheless, we are being Enronned by the oil companies. Enron manufactured its own "shortages/production bottlenecks" during times of heavy electric demand to drive up price. We are seeing the same at the gas pump. How else can you explain the all-time record profits that the oil companies are seeing, when the high price of crude should be hurting them also.

Sooner or later, asskicking inflation is coming.
