Watched a fascinating show this morning on BBC World about Iraq
It was "Simpson's World", and the reporter, Mr. Simpson, walked around Basra for a half hour, just talking with everyday Iraqis about how they feel about the occupation, British and American troops, etc. It was just amazing to see the raw honesty, uncensored and not all prettied up for sensitive 'murikan eyes...but damn, they reallllly don't like our soldiers, specifically. yikes! x(

1. Would you?
Nothing against our soldiers in particular, but if a country with a comlpetely different system of values, language, religion and way of life invaded the USA to liberate us from our oppressive leader, wouldn't you feel a little resentful and distrusting? Nevermind the chaos, destruction, poor planning, etc. As intolerable as I find BUsh, I don't think I could put up with much of that, even under the best of circumstances.

This is something I tried to get accross to my pro-war friends before the war. Even if things had gone perfectly, it's impossible to imagine that the neo-con vision of children throwing candy and women greeting soldiers with flowers would have come to fruition.

2. Yeah, but they don't mind the British
or that's what they said. They said our soldiers are disrespectful to the elderly and children, and that the British soldiers have a sense of humor. If children throw a rock at the Brits, they get talked to. If they do it to the 'murikans, they get shot. x(

it makes me sad...it's not like i was unaware of this, it just hurts to hear it out loud, sigh.

3. Sounds like good cop/bad cop.
I'm not surprised to hear it. That type of ridiculous macho attitude is just so pervasive throughout our culture.
