Oil Industry Needs to Pay Surtax

The price of crude oil approached $70/barrel this past week. Years ago, when crude oil prices rose above acceptable levels, there were steps taken in Washington, to institute a surtax on oil company profits in order to reduce the perception of price gouging. Oil prices soon retreated and the measure was never instituted, in my recollection.

Logic would dictate that now is the right time to once again institute such a policy. Oil companies would still make huge profits up to a certain price per barrel(say $50); after that the surtax would kick in and the extra money would go to help pay for the war that they are benefiting from in the first place!

I think it is absolutely outrageous that not one Democratic Politician has the courage to stand up to the Oily Boys in the White House and get the discussion started.
