Senator Harry Reid-D of Nevada just said in the Senate floor on regards to the retaliotory White House outing of CIA agents who don't tow the Nazi line. It's on C-SPAN right now.

I think that the word traitor is appropriate.

person working undercover, or uses espionage, or any of that top secret crap, then whoever outed them should be imprisoned to the fullest extent of the law.

Furthermore, if this "outer" is acting as an agent of a higher authority, that higher authority should be indicted as well, and sent to prison.

However, if it turns out this person's official position is clerical, whoever outed them SHOULD STILL be fired to make an example.

The CIA does all sorts of crazy stuff. Stuff I don't want to know about but may be realistically necessary. It is important that these people enjoy secrecy and respect. You'd think that Bush Jr would respect the organization Bush Sr. ran.

Regardless, I think Novak did not use the common sense God gave a doorknob. He should have left the name out, for respect. He would have definitely been on the govt side in Sullivan, so maybe he would err on the side of decency here.
He should apologize. But I do not want to see him lose his job due to the protection enjoyed by the press.

But consider this.

Ms.Plame worked in tracking WMD. If her contacts working overseas were there to identify terrorists buying a nuke from say NK and suddenly Novak outs Plame thus allowing the operatives to be identified/killed. This would leave the USA wide open in time of war.

I am wondering how bad the damage is, are we wide open now? This would be the same as openning a castle door during a siege.

Of course this is treason.

And to have the source of the leak be someone within the whitehouse is surreal. For the purpose of revenge? Or was it on purpose to open our defenses?
