They would only take away from Cindy. Thats just the way of politics.

It's her fight & shes doing a damn fine job IMHO.

19. Hear Hear. No More Politicos. Grass Roots Power Beats Them Any Day!
Although I would not object to some public statements of support for her from their offices, vacation houses or wherever these folks go on "recess". Maybe they are playing dodgeball!

22. Agreed. I just got done writing a letter condemning people for trying
to turn this into a partisan issue.

Cindy wants Bush himself to talk to her.

36. Agree. She has done more than any congressman or senator
can do! It took one bereaved parent to really call attention to the lies of this war.

I love John Conyers, but where have all the letters to * gone? Totally dissed.

Well now the thugs are getting theirs because Cindy has made it public for everyone to see.

I kinda expected Conyers to show up. Maybe Boxer. I'm also wondering where Molly Ivans is. I know she's on vacation but being a Texas gal I expect to see her out there when she gets back..

4. Steve, I kinda hope they don't go.
They haven't been working to stop this war and if they went, it would seem like petty politics. This is too important to muddy it up with politicians.

5. I don't know that that is significant
I mean it would be nice, but the whole point to Cindy's story is that she, as an average citizen, is asking for answers to questions - any Democrat who shows up and the story changes considerable - for one thing they run the risk of overshadowing her.

8. I hope not.
They would draw attention from Cindy and her son's cause.

Whether they were sincere or not, they would be seen as grandstanding, and I think there might be some truth to that charge.

Cindy's protest is much more effective as a Mothers' March and not as a celebrity event.

9. They'd just look opportunistic.
Many have voiced statements of support, and I hope more continue to do so, but going down there would just look like they were trying to get face time, IMHO.

10. They shouldn't be there.
This is Cindy's thing; it should remain a totally grassroots event. I don't want to see big-shot politicians moving in on it -- it would just look like grandstanding and take attention away from where it belongs, which is on Cindy. I would like to see more of them offering statements in her support, however.

12. Media already spinning for Repubs, reducing her motive to just "politics"
I really prefer that Dem lawmakers offer verbal support where they can, but, leave the physical aspect of it to earnest people compelled by their citizenship.

13. Umm...why would there be?
Are you expecting maybe Senator Kennedy or perhaps Nancy Pelosi to be camping out with those people 24/7 in a ditch until the President never comes to talk to her? :eyes:

I'd like to think our elected officials have more important things to focus on at the moment. She seems to be doing alright by herself.

16. Congresswoman from California
I read in the paper today that (and I am not sure of her name)Congresswoman Watson? or Waters? was planning to contact Cindy Sheehan. This Congresswoman is the one who has organized (I think) the Black Caucus against the Iraq War. Sorry for being so vague.

they can do no wrong.

they are on your side.

they want your money.

when the revolutiuon comes they will be shortened.

20. this shouldn't be about democrat/republican....... and we need people to
and we need people to see that.............. we really need them to see that for the next election.

This isn't about democrat and republican this is about life and death.

People can identify with Cindy because she is a normal woman and they can't imagine being in her shoes with her loss. A politician takes away how much Cindy's life hits close to home with allot of people and perhaps will give some the compassion to see the human lives this president has irresponsibly cost so many. Casey has become a person with a mother who dearly loved him who lost his life because of a dangerous president. From now on the number of causalities won't just read a number above 1,800, they will imagine so many Casey's (all with grieving families and lives that didn't need to be lost).

People would have to have a heart of stone not to be touched by Cindy........... keep politicians away, her message speaks so much louder volumes without them.

I don't know if they need to physically be there. I think it would...dilute, I guess...what Cindy Sheehan is doing in Crawford. It would take the spotlight away to have a bunch of politicisns down there.

31. They are very wise to stay away. Making it appear partisan is bad.
I'm sure Cindy would agree that the Democratic leaders should support her from the sidelines, but stay off the field.

Her stature is enhanced by the right's inability to tar her as a Democratic operative.

Don't be ashamed, be proud the Democrats are handling this correctly. And given their track record that is a major accomplishment.

34. It's better they don't
Cindy's got ** in a corner, she is one of the American citizens he professes to speak for. Now she's telling him, he's wrong, and she is not a politician or professional lobbyist, she is an American, who has like many of us, spoken out before, and he wouldn't listen, so now she's IN HIS FACE making him pay attention...

She's letting him know not to say he speaks for us, and we are going to hold HIM accountable to his decisions, for we had nothing to do with them...the blame is his...

If there were pols there, he could easily dismiss it as politics and partisan.
