7. There will be lots of people in Crawford before then
and we'll use it all up. Hmmm, how about a giant margarita maker, ice, mix, etc?

8. I think the Dove Hunter made it pretty clear why alcohol is a bad idea
but margaritas ARE refreshing!

:hi:

9. Margaritas were a joke. No way should there be alcohol or drugs
The focus is Cindy, Mr.bush, Iraq invasion/occupation. Peace.

11. Heh..
better tell them to get rid of the beer then... :)

I dont think there is anything wrong with a couple margaritas personally. But, that is just me.

14. It is the crowd mentality that gets out of hand.
Way too easy to get mobbish and I'm not talking "The" mob. Protest strategy: sit down if need be, don't resist arrest, be courteous, don't react to counter protestors, focus on the issue, no drugs/alcohol because you might need your wits about you.

UppityTeen might go down with me too. We talked about this with the response of "mom, I know all this, I teach other people this stuff" with the response of mutual eyerolling. I love my child.

16. Well, I definately agree with this at Camp Casey..
but back in town at the peace house, that's a whole other story. However, rest assured, nobody is getting boozed up :)

BTW, when you arrive in crawford you will get a handout about no alcohol, no illegal drugs, be courteous, yadda yadda.. rest assured.

3. The counter protestor interview is good.
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 02:10 PM by Iris
Although, this guy's opinions are quite reasonable and do not follow the general "Don't ask questions of authority" party line that most RW zealots use to justify their positions.

Most poignant line of the interview:

"I have a lot of friends in the military from the Iraq war and you don't wake them up at night."

15. Re showers
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 01:04 AM by sarahlee
Having lived without running water for 13 years now - I've got a simpler fix for hot showers in the summer - works especially well when you are dealing with a lot of people. And esp. if you can convince most to shower at night or late afternoon. gives the water time to warm. You need that time with solar showers anyway.

Buy several 64 OZ bottles of Pace Picante sauce. This is a plastic container with a molded in handle. (Have a party and serve it or empty into another container.) We discovered that these containers are just the right size, easy to hold etc. 12 years ago and have not found any other container that works as well.

Drill a lot of fairly small holes in the cap. You do not want them too large or the water pours out instead of "sprinkling."

Buy some black plactic trash cans. The smaller they are the faster they will heat up. You can also use a lot of one gallong milk jugs painted black or other types of container - I just keep two 33 gallon trash cans in the sunny part of my yard all summer.

Fill the trash cans with water and place in the sun. Stir them up a bit every hour or so to help the water warm evenly if you can or you wind up with really hot water on top and cold on the bottom. (not a problem for one or two people, but sad for the last showerers if there are a lot)

Of course if you have some way to heat water you can speed up that process. I have the bottom part of those propane turkey fryers and it will heat up a large pot of water pretty quickly on rainy days.

Then you just fill the picante bottles from the heated water.

If you use a soap that is easy to rinse off, like Dr. Bronners pure castile soap, an adult can get clean with just one 32 OZ bottle of water. I use 2 when I have to wash my hair and 3 is a real luxury shower. You just use a very little water to damp yourself down. Soap up and then use the rest to rinse.

I just did a 10 day camp for 23 people and this set up worked well for everyone there. This system assures enough water and a way to use it for a large number of people. Something a lot harder to do with solar showers.

Hope that helps.

17. Something I wish I would have brought..
Enlistment forms. I meant to print some out before I went but forgot. It would have been nice to have been able to give the counter protestors some.
