President Bush has been a very busy man this second week of his working vacation at the "Western White House," aka the Bush Ranch in Crawford, Texas. The extended vacation was ostensibly scheduled due to an urgent need to clear brush, a job that, much like defending America from terrorism, only George W. Bush is qualified to do. The brush is apparently the only thing, save shot glasses, being raised at the ranch.

On Monday, he was off to Albuquerque to sign an energy bill at the National Solar Thermal Test Facility. According to CNN, Bush "believes the nation must find new ways, besides fossil fuels, to power the economy." He touted "nucular" energy as the solution to the nation's dependence on foreign oil, despite the tour of the solar facility. The price of light sweet crude topped $63 a barrel as the bill was being signed.

Hours before, in a coup that passed unnoticed by the Bush administration, the mayor of Baghdad was deposed and replaced by Shiite Hussein Al Tahaan. He is a member of Sciri, the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq. Al Tahaan is expected to remain at his post until the Prime Minister can appoint someone to the position permanently. Whether this development bodes well for a secular Iraqi constitution is yet to be seen. A White House spokesman indicated he hadn't heard about the incident, but promised to look into it. The working/vacationing President could not be reached for comment.
