The article below describes the Democratic Party's continuing rightward drift in pursuit of electoral success (certainly our current control of the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court reveals this to be an incredibly brilliant strategy). The message the Democrats are embracing is clear: use of the nation's military might will make us safe. Our criminal war in Iraq, of course, suggests exactly the opposite, but why let facts get in the way of french-ki$$ing the military-industrial complex.

Sharpen message on foreign policy

WASHINGTON -- After months of internal debate and closed-door discussions, Democrats have begun to develop a more aggressive foreign policy that focuses heavily on threats they say are being neglected by the Bush administration, while avoiding taking a contentious stance on Iraq.

Even Democrats who have been associated with liberal positions on international affairs are calling for more troops in uniform, proposing that threats of force be used to stop nuclear weapons programs in Iran and North Korea, and pressing for potential military intervention to ease famine and oppression around the world.

The emerging message among Democrats reflects a recognition that winning congressional and presidential elections in the post-Sept. 11 era requires candidates to establish a willingness to use America's military might and keep the nation safe, according to party leaders and strategists.

The top Democrats in the House and Senate issued a report last month that harshly critiqued Bush administration efforts to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists. The report -- endorsed by the House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate minority leader, Harry Reid -- details Iranian and North Korean steps toward building nuclear weapons, and lagging efforts to secure ''loose nukes" in Russia that could fall into the hands of terrorists.

The report calls for the United States to engage in more direct negotiations with Iran and North Korea, and for the talks to be reinforced with military pressure, including ''the possibility of repeated and unwarned strikes."

I've been walking a fine line for quite some time. There are parties that better represent my personal views, but I stuck with the dems because I had hope. If they support another Bush war-pig orgy, that would do it for me.

also been walking the fine line, wanting the neocons out more than I wanted anything else. But if the Dems are going to be SO STUPID that they embrace this war-for-war's-sake bullshit, I'm gone. 16. Yep that's what I thought about the Iraq War Resolution

that October day was one of the worse days of my life. So many Democrats that I loved broke my heart that day. I would have bet my house that Kerry - after his position on Viet Nam would NEVER had voted for that resolution - but NO he did because he was going to run for President - worked out pretty well for him didn't it.

The ONLY reason that I think the Dems won't be so likely to vote for an Iran War resolution is that the polls are so high against the Iraq invasion now - I'm truly beginning to believe that most of these politicians Democrat or Repunk have no conviction - and only do what they think will get them elected. There are a handful of exceptions but only a few.

I ask myself day after day isn't there a few repunks with enough integrity to go to the White House and do something to stop this mad man in the White House - you know kind of like the Republicans who marched to the White House and told Nixon game over. I hope every day that at least a few of these "leaders' will come to their senses and make this insanity stop.

the end of Bush's second (and, one can hope, last) term in office. I wonder if that means he thinks the Democrats who supported the Iraq War Resolution would climb aboard for the Iran War Resolution.
