Maxine Waters has arrived at Camp Casey. She brought a basket of fruit to present to Cindy along with water and food for the camp. Congresswoman Waters is now meeting with the Gold Star Families, Iraq Veterans Against the War and Military Families Speak Out. After her meeting Ms. Waters plans to tour Camp Casey.

14. I got roasted for suggesting that earlier today...
...in DU Activists, but I agree 100 percent. There's something very Ghandi-esque about Cindy Sheehan's encampment and vigil. Political leaders should be visiting to pay their respects-- doing what she has demanded that Bush do-- and adding their voices to her call for accountability.

12. I always admired her even though Tom Hayden was
my Congressman at the time. She knows what it's like to get tarred and feathered by the right. I'm sure she empathizes with Cindy because now Cindy is going through what Maxine did for years. She's tops in my book along with Barbara Boxer.

Why is it that our women leaders have the character to do the right thing while our men leaders cower in the shadows?

21. I've asked myself the same question many times
Granted she has a safe congressional district, but so do many others. IMO, I think women are accustomed to speaking truth to power, because they've had to do it all their lives: to husbands, to bosses, to males in general. They aren't all that impressed by all the trappings of power.

Peace.

Don't forget everything he does for us! He just started the petition to Bush from members of Congress for Bush to give Cindy the time she wants to ask him questions.

Bernie Sanders, and a handful of others. The CorpoMedia doesn't give them much air time since they have pledged to dismantle the CorpoMonoply of the Media.

On Edit: I'm glad that MWaters paid a supporting visit to Camp Casey, but it is a good idea for most of the Dem pols to support Cindy from afar, as many have. 32 Dem Reps (the usual non-corporate suspects) signed Conyers letter to bush* demanding that the Coward-in Chief* meet with Cindy.

I'm a female, but I don't excuse my gender. There are too many GOP hags out there cheerleading all the death and destruction.

And there are a lot of men standing up to the Prez with Cindy.

41. I think the Dems should just "drop by" and not linger, but show
they support Cindy and then go back to Wash DC and do something about it. It was good they didn't show up the first week or even the second, but it would get more attention by the press if they just dropped by to speak with her since Bush won't. To me it shows a little bravery on their part cause, except for a few, they sure aren't showing any in Wash DC.

16. My honest opinion?
It doesn't matter if the pols show up or not. The Repugs have already branded this a 'liberal organized event' and said that the DNC/George Soros is behind it, so what does it matter?

The sweet neocons will try to spin this however they want, so like Eleanor Roosevelt used to say, "Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway. You'll be damned if you do, and damned if you don't."

22. I don't agree
Theoretically -- and I know its hard to believe this sometimes -- members of Congress represent the people. It is right and fitting that a member of Congress join in a grass roots effort to oppose Mr. Bush's war based on lies.

Maxine Waters is a member of Congress who has always impressed me as having been more in tune with her constituents than most. That goes back to her days as a member of the state Assembly.

Maxine speaks the truth, and she has more stones than most of those mealy-mouthed chisellers on the Hill. She does speak for her constituents, and she LISTENS to them. She is one sharp legislator, too.

26. There's a proverb I've seen somewhere . . .
. . . to the effect that for kings to visit philosophers is a good thing, but for philosophers to visit kings is a bad thing.

As long as the politicians come bearing simple gifts and stand humbly before the genuine representatives of the people, that is a very good thing.

Among others things, Cindy's vigil helps us divide the people of humility from the people of arrogance. Anyone who is willing to stand in a ditch in the dust alongside her has every right to be there.

31. Rep Waters has been working on the peace movement
She was against the invasion and she has been calling for the troops to leave Iraq now.

Meeting with Cindy and the other military families against the war is a natural show of support & solidarity that is consistant with her tireless work. IMHO, I believe it is the correct thing for Congresswoman Waters to do.

33. Good for Waters.
As a senior Democratic member of Congress, she was a perfect representative. Having one and only one MOC strikes me as supportive without being exploitive.

I wonder why the Vacaville Congressman (George Miller, 7th district, D-Martinez) didn't go.
