My son just came running in..
was with his friend from the neighborhood. They said "we're going out to the curb to protest" as they ran thru the house to the backyard looking for......(Im looking out the window now) looks like they're looking for sticks.

This is my 9 year old and his 10 year old friend.

They want "no blood for oil" and "the war is a lie" signs.

Thankfully I am a proud Freewayblogger and have plenty of impromtu signs available for moments such as these

I'll keep you posted

:)

Aren't we all doing a fine job of raising kids?

That's like my teenage daughter that brought me home Bsh/Chny signs before the election. She tore them off of walls of a place she was at.
Brought them home to show me.

Post pics!

9. At the RNC in NYC the biggest hit, as far as signs were concerned, was
the one that said,"Lick Bush and Dick!"

It was tough explaining it to my 6and1/2 year old twins!LOL!
My son was disgusted that I didn't buy him one!

20. I have a button that says "Lick Bush in 2004"
It has a Rolling Stones type tongue on it.

It was popular at "events" last Summer. The RWers loved it, but of course, they couldn't WEAR it!

10. UPDATE:
they're standing with a huge cardboard sign that say's "Bush lies..YOU KNOW IT!"
and have propped another sign up on a chair that say's "YOUR SILENCE IS ACCEPTANCE"

They are reporting people driving by giving "thumbs up"
they are so excited ,and thankfully the weather has cooled here in Az today and they've got a nice breeze.

I don't own a digital camera so have to run over to my parents house and borrow theirs, will upload pics in a bit.

Thanks for all the nice comments :)

33. I think there should
be both. I don't think that a child at 9yrs old is too young to understand certain things beyond his/her backyard. I take my kids with me when I go to rally's and protests and Freewayblogging painting parties and when we drive around at night to hang our signs. I take them because I think it's important for them to see that one person can make a difference. I also think theres a certain amount of deprogramming that has to be done. My kids attend public school, white majority and Mormon Republican. It's good for them to participate in the history of this country. Part of their history will be chill'n with Santa Claus and part of it will be camping with Cindy Sheehan come this Friday! And they are VERY excited!

40. I definitely see your point
Kids are so impressionable... at least when they're in the single digits or early double digits. I wouldn't want my kids to just parrot my own beliefs without question.

Just like with religion, when I tell my kids how I feel I try to emphasize that I'm just expressing my own opinion and that not everybody feels this way. As a result of that I have one Buddhist kid and one Christian kid.

And because I also give them the facts (sanitized when necessary--no need to tell them about the really horrible violence of the war) I have two firmly Democratic kids. And if you asked them why they're Democrats, they could tell you; I suspect few of the brainwashed kids of the freepers could give you the reasons that they're Republicans.

I honestly do try to explain that there are several sides to every issue (of course, with this administration, the facts are prejudiced against Bush), and because we liberals are the way we are, I'm sure I'm not alone. I doubt that freepers try to do the same thing, which is why it's a little creepier to see kids at pro-Bush rallies than at liberal ones.

43. I attended my first protest rally
At around age 3 or 4. Activism is empowering. It is an antidote to the learned helplessness that pervades our society. Besides, protests are usually fun for children. Much better than sitting around watching TV.

BTW, have you seen the new square black ones? It's a "W" in the middle of the black square and at the bottom it says in small type.

28. Last night on the way home my 11 year old daughter
and I ended up talking about Cindy Sheehan and what she is doing. She asked why bush was doing what he was, I told her how money and power are a problem for some people and explained the connection between the war, oil and money for his friends.

I explained to her that, as a man, I sometimes think women are wiser about the things that really matter in life and that we men sometimes do not pay attention to the important things. After I said I didn't know exactly why she said it was knitting. Knitting? Yeah, it makes you quiet, she said.

I said what we need are two good women to run for President and VP. I said Cindy should be one and I didn't know who the other should be. She said Barbara Boxer.

Now we're in Wisconsin, the only time she has heard about Boxer was during the electoral college debacle in January. Amazing she remembered, I must have said Boxer should run for president at that time.

Now that I think about it, yes, Boxer-Sheehan 2008.

How about a bumper sticker?

Maybe my daughter can design one.

32. freeway blogger rules
I did finally post the below sign on a Parkway bridge- not perfect but not too bad. I kept the flag my course-Actually just ordered 4 to send to Crawford, TX- cheaper then flowers.

Dollar store shower curtain even came with clips- used a few of them . I pust some slits in the shower curtain -to let the wind blow through. and reinforced a few of the holes and clips with duct tape also used a bit of wire to keep it secure. Easy and fast.
Later I spotted a couple better places for the next ones. I think the same message-very important- maybe a meet Cindy one????

but Im terrible at this stuff and do not know how to upload. My computer says that I do not have a driver installed. Im going to wait and take these to my mothers house later when she gets home and will have her upload them.

The protest lasted about an hour. And now they are jumping on the tramp, making a makeshift ladder, and generally being young boys.

I am proud of them! :)

38. I'm proud of your kids! My 12-yr-old son isn't quite so proactive,
but he makes his mark by refusing to wear any t-shirt but the one with a graphic of the shrub's head on the front and a photo of a big pretzel on the back. Superimposed on the head is one word, "DORK". I actually worry about him wearing this thing constantly but he assures me he is just waiting for somebody to make a negative comment. So far nobody has, although a couple of people have given him the peace sign and one woman told him the shirt was cool and asked where he got it. He wore it all over Munich and Stockholm and I think it softened our reception more than a couple of times!

41. This reminds me of the time when my son was barely 13
years old. We live in Lawrence, which also houses Haskell Indian University. It was 1992, the 500th anniversary of Columbus's "discovery" of the New World, and there was a large anti-Columbus protest march going past our apartment. My son asked what all those people were out there for, and I said, "Look at them, Michael. Who do you think they are?"

He said, "It looks like they're all Indians."

I said, "That's right," and explained what they were doing, why they were protesting. He got this look in his eyes, so I said, "Do you want to join their march?" (I was running a home daycare, so I was not free to leave and join the march myself.")

He said, "You mean you'd let me do that?"

Well, he joined the march, and later told me proudly that one of the speakers at the rallying point had commented that some non-Native American supporters had joined the group in solidarity, singling him out and thanking him.

That was the beginning of an activist adolescence for my son.

If the idea of standing up for what is right catches their imagination early in life, it tends to continue to be important to them. My son, age 25, is still very politically active--as I am sure your son will be. You should be very proud.
