That's how he concludes: that
"In the long run, we may well look back and see that it was this leveraging of a tiny democratic space in the heart of the Arab world that saved us from cataclysm. I'm not dumb enough to predict this. But I am still sane enough to hope for it."

Well, what I would tell shit for brains is, since this war is cost-free, a mere HOPE for a better outcome for this war doesn't justify it. I HOPE that I win the lottery. I MIGHT still win the lottery. And unlike the Iraq war, my chances to win the lottery AREN'T GETTING WORSE day by day.

But I would have to be a special sort of stupid to risk anyone's life on it, right?

But Sullivan would risk the lives of us all on his "hopes". It isn't insane to hope, its the human condition. But to pin another man's life on nothign more than hope, it's wrong.
