I'm watching "maverick" John McCain on Fox News Sunday.

I hereby declare Operation Reach-Out over. There's no reasoning with these madmen. Certainly not this insatiable warrior.

At the time I thought my friend Camille Paglia might have been a wee tad hyperbolic when she wrote for Salon during the 2000 campaign:

Dick Cheney with a better back story. McCain is much more respectable than McCain, and for all his faults is actually concerned about the environment and prisoners being tortured in Gitmo and Abu Gharad.

I think his mind was affected by being imprisoned all those years in Vietnam. He's probably been through endless brainwashing/torture sessions and I don't know if his mind ever fully recovered.

I agree, though, that he is not someone to put any kind of political store in; he seems to cower under when comfronted and flip flops even more than George Bush...
