Cindy Sheehan On Larry Mattlage. Talk To Your Neighbor.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/08/15/bush.neighbor/index.html

-Snip-

Land owner Larry Mattlage looks out
from his ranch across the street from
the anti-war protesters' camp.

Sheehan said protesters have been "good neighbors" to the people living near Bush's ranch.

"If the neighbor is tired of having us here, he should talk to his other neighbor, George Bush, and ask George Bush to come out and meet with me, and then we'll leave," she said.

====================================================================
The bottom line is that this guy's anger and threats are at best misdirected.

It is a shame that he is inconvenienced. But, he should take his anger to the guy that bought the land by him and started this miserable fucking war.

He better get a grip or this is going to feel a lot longer than a couple more weeks!

At this point, we leave when Bush decides! That could be tomorrow.

2. Meeting his anger with anger of our own is a mistake
and will not serve anyone well.

We don't know his life and should not judge. Isn't this what we get so riled up about freepers doing to us?

As I've mentioned before...this is a great opportunity to show them that liberals are different. We CAN take the high road.....

4. You better sprint on that high road - it takes a lot to outrun a shotgun.

8. Then everyone will have to leave Camp Casey
That's what he said to CNN. Pack up the tents and go back where they came from. I'd bet that this guy isn't strong on negotiation, nuance and grey areas. He proved that the second he pulled the trigger on that shotgun and the minute he invited others to join him.

10. Yes he did
and yuo may wonder ornot, if Rove is behind this...

That said, this is in many ways the conflict between the city and the counrry in a nutshell.....

And I do believe, no, I am not there, so I cannot surely tell, that we may be able to work something out with him... but this is a classic city versus country

12. From the article it looks like Cindy told him what to do...
...Go talk to W. If she sends people to negotiate with Mattlage, then fine. But if people go at cross purposes to the message she sent him - then that's not supporting her. So people then have to make a choice to stay or leave.

I have to wonder about your point on Rove. I posted earlier today about how curious it is that the WH in D.C. is so heavily guarded. But down there in Crawford a next door neighbor to W, who may possibly have been drinking, was able to fire off several rounds of his shotgun in a menacing act and not at least be taken in for questioning. Whatever is going on, I don't think that the reaction of the local sheriff and the SS was entirely appropriate given how Mattlage continues to swagger.

13. Exactly - it is a great opportunity to reach the broad middle
The only way the message will fail is if we act like freeptards.

Peace.

14. Not Wanting To Be Threatened By Drunks With Guns Trying To Run Us Out
of town is acting like freeptards in your book?

Odd definition is I do say so...

15. No offense, but yours seems to be the odd definition
Interesting that you call him a drunk. I saw no mention of drunkenness in the multiple news accounts I read. However, it just sounds better that way, right? That's what I mean about acting like a freeptard.

He also wasn't threatening anyone with his guns. He was discharging them on his property. That is a big difference. One is a criminal act punishable by prison. The other is a legal act conducted on private land. I would liken his "expression" to flag burning. I don't like it but I think it's important to preserve the right to express yourself, even in distasteful ways.

Just to be crystal clear, this guy sounds like a real asshole, and I'm sure I couldn't bear more than a few seconds in his company. However, just because I think he's an asshole does not give me the right to make stuff up about him. Again, that's what I mean about acting like a freeptard.

The oft-derided "sheeple" are smarter than many people on this board realize. They see hypocrisy in the fact that when Cindy protests, we support her, but when someone else protests, we deride them. How about we respect the right for all parties to express themselves as long as it is done legally and not at the expense of anyone else's rights? That's what I mean about acting like a freeptard.

I'm interested in shedding the image we have with many in the big electoral middle, of being people who dish it out but can't take it. It costs us credibility and votes. We have a superior message but sometimes what we have to say gets obscured by how we say it. I'm actually interested in returning to power in government. No votes = no power. The spluttering and hatred just aren't enough for me anymore. Hatred is the anger of the weak.

Peace.

17. In one of the pictures on CNN
there was a case of beer on the bed of his truck next to his shotgun.

Plus he was raging on camera like he was loaded.

I think that's where the drunkeness talk comes from .

3. No, as somebody else pointed out
this is the city versus the country... we can be friendly with larry and promise to leave the land as we found it (which are our values anyway)...

But serious, we can actually do this... and keep things going for Larry...

As to his neighbor, you think his neighboor, who is a big city boy wwho came and bought the set, err Ranch, really cares about larry? So we can try to at least make things tolerable for this country boy
