No God has Ever Commanded me to do Anything

i mean, i've seen those words called the ten commandments, and they say that god said those words, but why should i believe that? that was so many thousands of years ago, when apparent miracles used to occur, but i've never seen or heard any diety of any type making commandments to me, or anyone else. just cause it's written down in a book that's thousands of years old, doesn't make it so for me.

and let's imagine for a moment that there really is a god, who really did make these commandments to us? nobody really cares much, or obeys them much, and certainly no one enforces them, so what good are they, and what good is posting them everywhere graven in granite?

i think about stuff like this all the time.

Even if you arent a Christian its not as if the 10 commandments are saying anything that commonsense and decency dont.

Now, I do agree that there is no need to erect big tablet props and place them in public, non religious, places. That does no good, it is simply antagonistic and divisive.

i've always avoided murdering folks for instance, without words in an archaic tome to tell me so. and i never did covet my neighbors's wife or ass, or my neighbor's wife's ass.

take 'thou shalt not kill' for example. god says it, but if you read it, he also commands many old timers to kill and rape their enemies by the thousands. i'm glad he don't talk to me.

We could spend weeks discussing the social climate of the times, deconstructing what was actually said, what the words really meant in greek.. but that would do no good. Ive already asked these questions and took the time to study what was there and find the answer that I seek for myself, we must all do the same.
